Coach Jim Cavan, a man who
brought glory and honor to the
Lee football and girls basketball
teams for the past 23 years, has
stepped down and his former
players will roll out the red
carpet for him.
The dean of prep coaches in
Georgia recently announced his
retirement and plans have been
underway for several weeks to
honor Coach Cavan. The bar
becue dinner will not be limited
to former football and girls
basketball players with a
limited number of tickets to be
placed on sale this week.
Letters have been sent to all
former football players who
played under Coach Cavan at
Lee, Griffin, Gainesville and
Rome during his prep coaching
career that numbered 38 years.
Members of the Lady Rebels

largest crowd ever to see a
football game in Thomaston,
over 10,000 fans viewing the
spectacle. His 18th season at
Lee proved to be his very best
as the Rebels glided through an
undefeated season ten straight
wins and Lee’s first win ever
over LaGrange, 14-7.
The Rebs won region football
crowns in 1961, 1965, 1966, 1967
and 1970. His Lady Rebel
