Griffin girls
rip Morrow
The Griffin High girls won the
most important game of the
1975-76 season last night in
Thomaston.
The local lassies came-from
behind to defeat Morrow 4845 in
the 6-AAA semi-finals.
The crucial victory put
Griffin in the region finals
against Rockdale, and more
importantly, advanced them to
the state AAA tournament.
Griffin and Rockdale square
off tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the 6-
AAA championship.
Griffin’s chances of landing a
berth in the state tournament
didn’t look good in the first half
and again midway of the third
period.
However, a couple of hot
streaks erased a 12 point deficit
in the second quarter and a nine
pointer in the third.
Coach Harvey Oglesby’s
team trailed 11-9 after one
period.

Suns burn Hawks
PHOENIX (UPI) - Rookie
Ricky Sobers hopes his best
game in the National Basket
ball Association didn’t give
opponents too many ideas.
“Atlanta’s scouting report
must have said I wasn’t a good
shooter. I hope other teams
scout me the same way,”
Sobers said after scoring his
pro-high of 27 points in the
Phoenix Suns’ 115-97 win over
the Hawks Thursday night
The 6-foot-3 guard, drafted
out of Nevada-Las Vegas as a
defensive specialist, connected
on 11-of-17 shots in only his
third start since veteran Dick
Van Arsdale broke his arm.
Sobers proved his defensive
worth too, setting a club record
with seven steals. He also
added seven rebounds and
seven assists.

CHICAGO (UPI) - The

ning mate at guard, also had 27
points as the Suns recorded
their eighth win in their last 12
games.
“I was really happy about
my all-around play,” said
Sobers. “That’s what I have
emphasized since I started
playing basketball. I know I
have to be a complete player to
be the best which is my goal.
“I wasn’t really doing any
thing unusual. I was taking my
usual shots. Atlanta relaxed on
me, letting me have the outside
jumper and when I penetrate, I
just wait and see what the
defensive man will do. The
shooting just came in the
rhythm of the game.”
Asked if he was gaining more
confidence in his offensive
ability, Sobers said, “I believe
experience is confidence and
the longer I play the more
tricks of the trade I’ll learn.”
The score was tied 14 times
and the lead changed 20 times
before Phoenix took the lead
for keeps with eight minutes
left in the third quarter. The
Suns led 83-74 entering the last
quarter and the closest Atlanta
came was seven points with
nine minutes left.
John Drew led the Hawks
with 32 points, followed by Lou
