Pike School Board
calls special meeting
The Pike County Board of
Education last night briefly
discussed school budget
projections then called a special
meeting for Thursday, April 22,
at 8:30 p.m. to further consider
the school budget for the 1976-77
term.
Supt. Jim Mullins presented
budget figures to the board.
They called for budget in
creases from a low of $136,000 to
a high of $177,000.
The called meeting is to
discuss the projected increases
and the overall budget.
Supt. Mullins said the fact
that the budget hasn’t been
increased in three years
coupled with inflation and a
decrease in federal funds were
reasons school budget increases
were being considered.
In other action:
The board approved bus
driver contracts and substitute
drivers.
Approved a substitute teacher
St. George’s planning
Good Friday service
The congregations of all
churches are invited to par
ticipate in the Good Friday
Service of Holy Week at St.
George’s Episcopal Church on
Friday, in a three-hour service,
beginning at noon.
The first part of this service
will be in eight sections of ap
proximately 15 minutes each,
making it possible to par
ticipate in one or more as time
allows. Words of Christ from the
Cross.
Frank Thomas, Jr., will sing
several solos during this portion
of the service and will direct
congregational singing.
Organists will be Ronni
Lewis, Claire Ann Mankin, Jeff
Gillespie, Mark Mathews and
Paula Carley.

Easter Egg hunts
set for Saturday
The Griffin-Spalding Recrea
tion Department will hold its
Easter Egg Hunts Saturday
beginning at 10 a.m.
The hunts will be held at City
Park, Patrick Park and
Fairmont Park.
Two hunts will be held at each
location. They are for children
five and under and six through
10-years-old.
Rev. James A. Clark, assistant
to the Bishop of the Diocese of
Atlanta, serving as instutional
chaplain for the Diocese.
The last 45 minutes of the
three-hour period at ap
proximately 2:15 p.m. will be
given to the presentation of
several choruses and airs from
“The Messiah’’ by G.-G.
Handel.
A choir of several community
churches will present the
music.
Mrs. Jams A. Mankin is
director and Mrs. Jerry Savage
is organist. Soloists will be Mrs.
T. J. Berry and Dr. Robert E.
Flanders.
The Rev. William Douglas
Winn is rector of St. George’s
Episcopal Church.

Secretary
luncheon
planned
The Women’s Division of the
Chamber of Commerce is
sponsoring its annual
secretaries day luncheon
Friday, April 23, at the Griffin
Moose lodge.
The vents get under way at
12:05 with the secretaries being
guests of their bosses.
Secretaries were asked to
send letters nominating their
boss for the Boss of the Year
Award.
A swimsuit fashion show also
is planned.
Reservations must be made
in advance, not later than
Thursday, April 22. Tickets are
four dollars each and may be
reserved by contacting the
chamber office.
The affair will adjourn
promptly at 1 p.m.

Thursday morning at 11 o’clock
from the Church of Christ on
South Hill street. Minister Tom
Roberts and Minister Evans
McMullen will officiate. Burial
will be in Griffin Memorial
Gardens.
Haisten Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.
Mr. Littleton
Mr. Albert Lee Littleton, Jr.,
49, of Thomaston was dead on
arrival yesterday at the Upson
County Hospital.
Survivors include his father,
Albert Lee Littleton, Sr. of
Griffin; three daughters, Mrs.
Angelia Evans, Mrs. Becky
Arnold and Mrs. Teresa
Compton, all of Griffin; three
sister, Mrs. Louise Adams,
Mrs. Betty Nixon, both of
Thomaston, Mrs. Joanne
Keadle of Griffin; two brothers,
George Littleton of Thomaston
and David Littleton of Griffin;
six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday at 2 o’clock from the
Congregational Holiness
Church on Burnette road in
Thomaston. The Rev. Keith
Smith will officiate. Burial will
be in Southview cemetery.

Burglars hit
Burglars entered Walter
Benton, Jr.’s apartment at 702
Anne street and stole a watch,
stereo component set and three
records.
Police estimated their total
value at around $565.
Burglars ransacked Sarah &
Nell’s Beauty Shop, 1459 Ex
periment street, but apparently
didn’t steal anything, police
said. .
She’ll roll
into marriage
PITTSBURGH (UPI) - Keri
Malone and Barry DeLien plan
to roll into married life on
skates.
The couple will exchange
marriage vows Saturday before
the Rev. William J. Lightbody
at a local rink. All will be on
roller skates, including 16 other
members of the wedding party.
Miss Malone will glide down
the aisle on the arm of her -
father, who also will be on
skates.
Boy, 3, injured
A three-year-old boy was
admitted to the Griffin hospital
after being hit by a car near his
home on Lynn street yesterday
afternoon.
Police said Gregory Bernard
Fuller of 105 Lynn street ran in
front of an auto driven by
Charles Johnson, 43, of 107 Riley
circle.
Johnson carried the injured
child to the hospital where he
was reported in fair condition
this morning.
Police termed the accident
unavoidable.

Mrs. Johnson
Mrs. Viola Reeves Johnson,
924 East Broadway, died
Tuesday at her home.
She was the widow of the
Thomas Joseph Johnson, Sr.
Mrs. Johnson was a life-long
resident of Spalding County and
was a member of the Sunny Side
United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Frank Standard of
Hampton; three sons, Thomas
Joseph Johnson, Jr., Howard R.
Johnson and William Bartow
Johnson, all of Griffin; two
sisters,' Miss Sybil Reeves of
Griffin‘and Mrs. Ollie Bennett
of Hialeah, Fla.; two brothers,
James Alfred Reeves and
Arnold Reeves, both of Griffin;
six grandchildren and one great
grandchild.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock
from the chapel of Pittman-
Rawls Funeral Home. The Rev.
Sydney W. Whiteman and the
Rev. Victor Whited will of
ficiate. Burial will be in Inman
cemetery.
The body will remain at
Pittman-Rawls Funeral Home.
Friends may visit the family
from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral
home.
Mr. Manry
Mr. Harry Brown Manry, 83,
of Route three, Barnesville,
died at the Griffin-Spalding
Hospital this morning after an
extended illness.
He was born in Monroe
County, son of the late John T.
Manry and the late Emma Poe
Manry.
Mr. Manry was a mechanic
and retired 10 years ago.
He was a member of the
Marvin United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include a son, Jack
Manry of Huntsville, Ala.; a
sister, Miss Susie Mae Manry of
Barnesville; three grand
children; several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be
announced by Haisten Funeral
Home of Barnesville.
Mr. Willis
The funeral for Mr. Gus Willis
1323 Lincoln road will be held
tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Shiloh
Baptist Church in Lamar
County.
The Rev. F. L. Paigne will
officiate. Burial will be in the
church cemetery. The body will
lie in state at the church from 1
p.m. until the funeral.
Friends may visit the family
at McDowell United Funeral
Home tonight 7-8 p.m.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. lona Willis; a daughter,
Mrs. Eula Miller of Griffin; a
stepson, J. C. Willis; a sister,
Mrs. Georgia Wilson of Atlanta;
three grandchildren, five great
grandchildren, nieces and
nephews.
The cortege will form at the
residence at 1 p.m. tomorrow.

Pete Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Davis, and Tammy Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Billy Jones, all of Zebulon, are set for the Hike-Bike Saturday. It will be held to raise money
for the Pike County Association for Retarded Citizens. The riders will begin at Molena city
park and ride a course 13 miles. Some bikers may choose to ride it twice. They’ll recruit
sponsors for donations to the fund. Rides will begin at 9 a.m.
