Mrs. Green
The funeral for Mrs. Melvinia
Green of 118 Quincy street will
be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at
Achaia Baptist Church. The
Rev. E. Frank Hatchett will
officiate.
Bruial will be in Varner
cemetery at Pomona.
Survivors include three
cousins, Mrs. Pauline Lusier,
Mrs. Hessie Freeman, Mrs.
Bessie Sullivan and Mrs.
Haftent Phillips; nephew,
Raymond Cauthem and Hosea
Green, both of Atlanta.
The cortege will form at the
residence at 1 p.m.
McDowell Funeral Home is in
charge of plans.

Mrs. Hand
Mrs. Faye Norton Hand of
1420 Meriwether street, wife of
William B. Hand, died Wed
nesday afternoon at the Griffin-
Spalding County Hospital after
an illness of six months.
She was the daughter of the
late Marvin Evans Norton and
the late Carrie Biles Norton.
Mrs. Hand has been employed
at Lou Anne’s Restaurant and
was employed at the Capri
Restaurant at the time she
became ill.
She was a member of the
Hanleiter Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband,
survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Sonny Gunnels, of Griffin;
two sons, Larry Hand of
Conyers and Kenneth Hand of
Livingston, Ala.; a brother,
Philip B. Norton of Ft. Wayne,
Ind.; four sisters, Mrs. A. E.
McClendon of Decatur, Mrs. T.
E. Sweatman and Mrs. L. W.
Pruitt, both of Charleston, S. C.,
Mrs. J. M. Bottoms of Griffin;
six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock
from Haisten’s Chapel. The
Rev. Elwyn McDonald and the
Rev. W. G. Southerland will
officiate. Burial will be in Oak
Hill cemetery.
Friends may visit the family
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Sonny Gunnels, 228 Roberts
street.
Haisten Funeral Home of
Griffin is in charge of
arrangements.

Funeral services for Mr.
Harry Brown Manry, Route 3,
Barnesville, were held this
afternoon at 2:30 from the
Maryin United Methodist
Church. The Rev. Doug Hardin
officiated. Burial was in the
Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery
in Lamar County.
Hasten Funeral Home of
Barnesville was in charge of
arrangements.

Spalding Sheriff’s officers
were investigating a burglary
at Williamson Intemation farm
equipment company on the
North Expressway last night.
A 1973 green Ford pickup
truck, valued at $2,000 and a
riding lawn mower, worth
SI,OOO, were taken.
Someone entered the M St M
Gris Grill, 116 Experiment
street, and stole a ham, six
pounds of sausage, potato chips
and cakes, according to Griffin
police.
East Griffin
wins in tags
East Griffin Elementary
School was the winner in the old
car tag drive with an average of
8.425 tags collected per student.
Runner up was Orrs
Elementary with 4.428 per
student.
The contest was sponsored by
the Griffin Kiwanis Club who is
awarding the winner SIOO in
cash.
Second place Orrs also will
receive a cash prize after the
tags are sold.
A total of 8,848 tags were
collected during the drive.

Dick Wood, instructor at
Griffin Tech, was elected presi
dent of the Griffin Kiwanis Club
yesterday for the 1976-77 year.
He will succeed Ronnie
Massey of First National Bank
in October.
Elected to serve as vice
president were Ron Lane and
Brian Larson.
Jett Russell was reelected
treasurer.
Elected to the board of
directors were Kim Beaty, Mac
Baird, Floyd Howard and
Henry Smith.
Arthur Fountain and Ronnie
Green will be carry-over
directors and the club will elect
one other director to round out
the slate.
British Wives
take baskets
to Molena
The British Wives Club in
Griffin today took Easter
baskets to patients in the
nursing home at Molena.
It was one of the many
community service projects the
club carries out.
The baskets were to be
delivered this afternoon.

Retired
Mrs. Maedell Lewis has retired
from Crompton Highland Mills
after approximately 49 years of
continous service. Mrs. Lewis
has been in the weave room
during all of her service and
was employed as a smash hand
upon her retirement. Mrs.
Lewis and her husband George |

New pastor
The Rev. Hulet Smith of
Thomaston is the new pastor of
Meriwether Street Church of
God in Griffin. Rev. Smith and
his family have been in
evangelistic work for the past
six years. He will begin Easter
Sunday.

Spalding
included
Spalding was one of 10
counties listed in a State
Department of Transportation
contract awarded to install an
exit numbering system on 1-75
and 1-285.
Road Safety, Inc. of
Jonesboro was the low bidder in
the amount of $78,270.56.
The system will be installed
on 1-75, beginning at 1-16 in
Macon and extending north to
Brookwood Station in Atlanta
and on 1-285 beginning at the
Red Oak Interchange and ex
tending around Atlanta to the I
-85 interchange south.
The contract calls for work to
be completed in 255 calendar
days.
Other counties include Bibb,
Monroe, Lamar, Butts, Henry,
Clayton, Fulton, Cobb and
DeKalb. ___________
