Successful gardner
Mrs. Evelyn Hammock’s front porch at 624 East Slaton
street in Griffin is filled with pot plants, all of which have
taken on ususual growth in the last few months. Each
flower has a Biblical name. The two begonia hanging
gardens are Ruth and Rose of Sharon (in photo). A
Philodendron is St. John the Devine. Judas Iscariot is a
mother-in-law tongue; the Apostle Paul, a Wandering
Jew; St. Peter, a spider plant; James, the apostle, a large
fern and Mary, a manger plant. “I tried to raise flowers
last year, but they all died except two plants. Then I
started again this spring. Every evening when I water my
plants, I sing to them, songs like, ‘Jesus Saves’ and ‘Great
Is The Father, Great Is The Son, Great Is The Holy Ghost.’
I give them plant food every three or four weeks,” said
Mrs. Hammock. She is a Holiness missionary, who
worships at her church, the St. Mark House of Faith, three
times a week. She also conducts prayer meeting in private
homes when asked.

Robbery
suspect
claims loot
COLUMBIA, S.C. (UPI) -
An Atlanta policeman says one
of two men on trial for a 1972
bank robbery in South Carolina
claimed ownership of about
SIO,OOO found in an Atlanta
apartment and later linked to
the theft.
Patrolman Lloyd D. Ramsey
said earlier Larry Hacker
claimed the money after it was
found in a search of an
apartment in northeast Atlanta
on March 9,1972, six days after
the theft of $30,000 from the Six
Mile branch of Bankers Trust.
“We turned over a sofa
cushion and found a loaded
pistol and two bundles of
money tied with rubber bands,”
Ramsey said.
Hacker and Willie Foster
Sellers are charged in the
robbery. Carl C. “Bub” Skel
ton, a former Greenville County
sheriff’s deputy, and Luther
Lee “Luke” Cannon, a Green
ville used car dealer, pleaded
guilty a week ago to another
count in the indictment —
receiving $2,500 of the proceeds
from the holdup but have not
been sentenced.
Ramsey said Hacker, who
identified himself to the officer
as Milton R. Jensen, opened the
door of the apartment to let
Ramsey and a fellow officer in.
“The man who identified
himself as Jensen first denied
knowing anything about the
money but then said it was all
his,” Ramsey said.
Ramsey said another man
who he idenified as Arthur
Edward “Fast Eddie” William
son Jr. was also in the
apartment.
Williamson testified earlier in
the week he and Hacker had
gone to Atlanta after robbing
the bank and hidden approxa
mately SIO,OOO of the stolen
money under a cushion in an
apartment in the northeast
section of the city.
Williamson was also indicted
on bank robbery charges in
connection with the case but is
being granted immunity in
exchange for his testimony.
