Butts tax hassel

/The lengthy hassel over 1975
ad valorem taxes in Butts

<££ INMEMORIAM Q
/ In loving memory of my
husband Donald L.
Crowder, who passed away
one year ago today, Oct 10,
1975.
They say time heals all
sorrow and helps to forget
But time so far has only
proven how much I miss
! you yet
To hear your sweet voice to
see your smile.
Would ease the ache I feel
inside,
Your life on earth brought
me so much joy and hap
piness,
And memories death
cannot destroy.
Today is a day of '
remembrance and many
sad regrets; a day I shall
always remember.
When the rest of the world
forgets, some may think I
' have forgotten when at
times they see me smile;
but little do they dream of
the heartaches that my
smile hides all the while.
My heart is filled with
sadness.
My eyes shed many tears.
God alone knows how I
miss you and want to talk
to you at the end of one long
year.

An agreement between
members of the Butts County
Taxpayers Protective
Association (TPA), a group of
about 225 Butts County property
owners banded together to seek
adjustments and the Butts
County Board of Com
missioners, to abide by the
average adjustment of 10 cases
being submitted to arbitration,
has apparently ended the
dispute.
Flint Superior Court Judge
Hugh D. Sosebee announced
that those cases going to ar
bitration has resulted in an
average reduction of 38.4
percent from the original
assessment.
Judge Sosebee ordered that
the final assessed values of
properties owned by members
of the Butts County Taxpayers
Protective Association will be
assessed at 61.6 percent of their
orginal assessments for the 1975
tax year.
The Judge further ruled that
the costs of the third arbitrator
and the court costs should be
paid one-half by the county and
one-half by the TPA members
in an equal amount, to be paid
on or before taxes are paid.
Although the ruling will
resolve the tax status of the
majority of TPA members,
there are still two cases pending
in Henry County Superior Court
contesting the legality of the
1975 Butts County tax digest and
several other cases on file with
the Butts County Cleric of the
Superior Court according to the
report in the Jackson Progress-
Argus.
