Juvenile court
School skipping cases handled
Cases of seven children
accused of skipping school
came up in Spalding Superior
Court Wednesday. They ranged
in age from seven to 14 years.
One had been absent from
classes more than 30 days this
school year.
The case of the seven-year-old
was dismissed and Judge
Claude Goza warned that
warrants may be taken against
parents who are found negligent

in seeing that their children get
to school.
Two 13-year-olds did not show
up for court and the remaining
four were placed on an informal
adjustment period. They were
11, 13, 13 and 14-years of age.
Judge Goza warned that their
attendance will be watched
closely and if they have more
unexcused absences they will be
brought back into court to face
sterner action.
A 16-year-old boy was placed
on probation until further order
of the court for denting the top
of a car with his fists.
Probation also was given to
two 12-year-old boys who were
accused of stealing beer from a
house and kicking in the door.
One of them had previously
been placed in a youth home
and also was charged with
running away and breaking the
home rules. He will continue to
be on probation to the Spalding
Juvenile Office.
A boy, 12, who was found to be
unruly and had behavior
problems at school was placed
on probation and ordered to
cooperate with Mental Health
and Child Development Center
officials.
A boy, 12, who ran away from
a youth home and broke the
rules there was returned to the
home of his mother and con
tinued on probation.
Cases of a 13-year-old girl who
was caught shoplifting at
Kmart and a boy, 15, who
violated his after care status,
were continued until the
December term of court.
A boy, 15, was ordered held in
custody until a hearing date
could be set next week.
He has been accused of a
number of offenses including
stealing change from drink
machines in the club house at
the Hampton Trailer Court and
at a Memorial drive business.
Authorities said his case was
scheduled in August but he fled
Griffin and later was picked up
in Dallas, Texas.
He also was accused of
burglarizing a laundermat at
Northgate Shopping Center.
Wednesday’s court had one
custody case which involved
two children.
The children will remain in
the temporary custody of the
Spalding County Department of
Family and Children Service.

in wreck
Three young people were
admitted to the Griffin-Spalding
Hospital with injuries they
suffered in a traffic accident
Wednesday night on Musgrove
road.
Troopers at the Griffin post of
the Georgia State Patrol
identified them as the driver,
Charles Ray Chambers, 20, of
438 West Solomon street, and his
passengers, Wanda Yvonne
Wells, 17, of Elm street, Ex
periment, and Anita Rigsby, 16,
of Willow street, Experiment.
Troopers said the car left
Musgrove road and ran into a
creek about 9 p.m.
This morning patrolmen said
the accident was the only one
investigated in their three
county area of Spalding, Butts
and Henry Counties since the
Thanksgiving holiday period
began at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
It ends Sunday at midnight.
A Barnesville woman was
injured Wednesday in a
collision at South Eighth and
West Oak streets according to
Griffin police.
Officers said Martha Darden
of Barnesville was taken to the
Griffin-Spalding Hospital
emergency room.
She was a passenger in an
auto driven by Debra L. Belote,
also of Barnesville.
Albert Lee Holt of 108 Ella
street was driving the other
yehicle, police said.
