Lawfords leg
IjOS ANGELES (UPI) — Peter Lawford is back in
hospital because of pains in a leg accidentally cut more
than a month ago during a movie scene.
The actor returned to UCLA Medical Center Monday,
complaining of severe pains in his left leg, injured Oct. 22
on the set of “Fantasy Island.’’ Actress Carol Lynley
threw a wine glass at Lawford, as required in the script.
The glass shattered and a piece hit Lawford in the leg,
opening a cut that took 22 stitches to close.
“I was on crutches for two weeks," Lawford said.
“Since this weekend I’ve suffered severe pains in the leg
and my back. Doctors are checking to see if there is any
correlation between the accident and this new pain.”

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (UPI) — Singer Bobbie Gentry’s SSOO

Commerce announced Monday that Debbie Reynolds will
receive the annual Will Rogers Memorial award, given in

reflecting devotion to the craft and fellow workers.”
The award will be presented at the Beverly Hills Bir

Bush hits out
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (UPI) - Retiring CIA Director
George Bush says he has nothing but contempt for authors
who reveal the names of U.S. intelligence agents working
overseas.
Bush, who plans to resign when Jimmy Carter is
inaugurated as president Jan. 20, said in a luncheon
speech to businessmen Monday that “nothing could be
more damaging to the interests of our nation and our
national security than this kind of irresponsible exposure.
“When I see a book or article that deliberately exposes
our operations and relations with other governments, that
deliberately names our people and their contacts, I have
nothing but contempt for those authors.”
Tearful Amy
PLAINS, Ga. (UPI) — Amy Carter, hoping to remain in
Plains, cried when she learned her father had been
elected president.
"The night that Jimmy was elected she had gone to bed
about 11 and we woke her up about 3:30 or 4 to tell her that
Jimmy had won and he was going to be president, and she
cried,” her mother, Rosalynn Carter, said, in a Barbara
Walters’ interview broadcast by ABC-TV Monday night.
“She wanted him to lose because she didn’t want to leave
Plains.”
McGovern
says U. S.
should lift veto
WASHINGTON (UPI) - Sen.
George S. McGovern, D-S.D.,
says the United States should
lift its veto of Vietnam’s ap
plication for membership in the
United Nations.
“Our government has ration
alized its use of the veto against
Vietnam by contending that we
are waiting for more in
formation about Americans
missing in action in the recent
Vietnam war,” McGovern said
Monday in a letter to Secretary
of State Henry Kissinger and
Defense Secretary Donald
Rumsfeld.
