Carter asked not
to pardon evaders
WASHINGTON (UPI) - A
Southern congressman who
headed an effort to determine
the fate of Americans missing
in Southeast Asia is trying to
organize a campaign to per

Carter to drop his plans to
pardon Vietnam era draft

Rep. G.V. “Sonny” Mont

to members of Congress invit

to Carter requesting him to

the draft evaders.

Congress has the responsibility

System law, “we feel it is
important that you know there
is a body of bipartisan
opposition to the pardon.”
Montgomery said the fate of
Vietnam era draft evaders
“should be decided on a case
by-case basis before a jury of
peers.”
