Police continued to look for
robbers who escaped with
undisclosed amounts from
Hosiery Shoppe on Christmas
Eve and the Thrifty Food Store,
122 Spalding street, on Dec. 21.
Griffin police have received
two reports of what appears to
be a jewelry saleswoman
defrauding her customers.
Mrs. Annie Frances Akridge
of 111 Kentucky avenue
reported a white woman came
to her home on Dec. 4 and
claimed to be selling jewelry for
the Merlite Jewelry Co.
Mrs. Akridge said she pur
chased a ring pictured in a
catalog and gave the stranger a
six-dollar down payment on the
$lB price.
The woman promised to
deliver the ring but did not
return.
A similar complaint was
received from Mrs. Akridge’s
neighbor, Mrs. Vera Walker of
101 Kentucky avenue.
Mrs. Walker said the woman
also came to her house on Dec. 4
and sold her a S2B ring. She
made a down payment of S2O but
never received the ring.
The saleswoman was thought
to be in her 50’s. She was driving
a cream colored two-door auto
bearing an out of county tag.
An area lookout has been
placed for a pickup truck which
was stolen yesterday afternoon.
Terry R. Parker of Route
Three, Jackson, reported his
wife left their 1971 Toyota Hilux
truck parked at Newton Crouch
Co. around 2:30 p.m.
Mr. Parker discovered the
vehicle missing around 8 p.m.
It was yellow with tag number
TN-7674 and had two CB an
tennas. A tag on the front read
"Smoke Runner.”
Police said approximately
SIOO worth of tools were in the
vehicle.
Mrs. Thelma Bethune, 212
Brawner street, reported the
theft of her car battery
yesterday.
She said she went into Hut
son’s Grocery on Chappell
street and when she returned
some 15 minutes later, the
battery was gone.

sponsor the bloodmobile’s visit
to Griffin Thursday.
Headquarters will be at the
Cheatham building of First
Baptist Church.
Donors may go there from
12:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.
Charles Crawley, information
director for this visit pointed out
that there is a greater need for
blood donors at this time of the
year and sometimes they are
harder to get to the bloodmobile
because of the busy holiday
activities.
This will be the last visit of the
bloodmobile to Griffin in 1976.
Blood program officials say
Griffin needs to average 250
pints of blood per visit to
maintain its Red Cross
program.
