THE GREAT CONFESSION
Matt If: 13-27
As Jesus and His disciples
walked
Along the highway
He asked an important
question to see what they
would say.
"Whom do men say that I
am?"
(Os course He already
knew but asked this that a
greater question
He might lead up to.)
Peter speaking for all of
them said, "Some say Elias,
Some say John the Baptist,
others
Say Jeremlas."
"But whom say ye that I
am?"
Jesus quietly asked them.
"Thou art the Christ, Son of
the living God,"
Peter answered Him.
Peter has spoken from his
heart
Because of faith within.
He knew Jesus alone had
power
To redeem souls of men.
Jesus was pleased with the
answer
Which Peter had given
And told him it was revealed
By His Father in heaven.
"Upon this rock I will build
my church," Jesus to them
said.
He is the Rock, the Sure
Foundation,
He's the Living Bread.
Jesus let them know that His
Church
Built on faith cannot fail.
He is the Head, and against it
Hell's gate shall not
prevail.
Jesus told them that He
would give
To them the Kingdom
Keys.
They were men of faith and
He would
Work through men such as
these.
When Jesus fold him He
would be
killed
And be raised the third day
Peter rebuked Him, all were
shocked.
Not knowing what to say.
Peter, thought not of God's
great plan,
But of his own instead.
Jesus turned to Peter, "Get
thee
Behind me, Satan," he
said.
Jesus says to all, "If any
man
Will come after me.
Let him deny himself, take
up
his cross and follow me."
Those who lose themselves
In service
The greater life shall find
While those who live only for
self
Leave nothing good
behind.
"What shall It profit a man,"
Jesus asked In words bold,
"If he shall gain the whole
world
And lose his own soul?"
Do we really know Jesus
Christ
As our Saviour and King?
Do we dally confess our love
To Him in everything?
"Take the world but give me
Jesus,"
Must be our dally cry.
"Come after me, take up
your cross,"
Is our Master's reply.
"Lord, we, too, confess Thou
art the
Christ
Make our love for Thee
supreme.
That we may witness to the
whole
world
Thy power to redeem I"
