ERA,” Mrs. Busbee said.
Lt. Gov. Zell Miller said after
the luncheon that if the ERA is
introduced in the Senate on the
first day of the session as ex
pected, he intends to call it up
for a vote before lawmakers
adjourn for President-elect
Jimmy Carter’s inauguration in
mid-January. Miller said he be
lieves it will pass the Senate
this year despite considerable
opposition.
“A number of senators who
voted against it in 1975 have
told me they are leaning to
ward supporting it now,” Miller
said.
There have been repeated ef
forts to pass the measure in the
Georgia Legislature since 1974.

Former Sheriff Jimmy Blood
worth resigned last October
when he pleaded guilty to a
charge of accepting $4,000 from
convicted gambler William N.
Hawes. He was sentenced to
one year in prison and four on
probation.
Dist. Atty. Fred Hasty said
when Bloodworth pleaded guilty
in October that he believed no
one else in the sheriff’s depart
ment was aware of the pay
ments.
Former Macon Police Chief
James Flynt pleaded guilty to
extorting S6OO from Hawes, the
same man who gave Blood
worth $4,000. Seven other mem
bers of the Macon police force
have pleaded guilty or been
convicted on various vice
charges.
Hasty resigned as district at

he was re-elected, citing ill

Prince Andrew
TORONTO (AP) — Meeting Prince Andrew, second in
line to the British throne, was “sort of like meeting a
famous pop star,” says Kirsten Jones, 16, who was in the
crowd that greeted his plane here.
Andrew, also 16, arrived here Monday night to spend six
months at the private College School near
Peterborough, Ont.
“I was so nervous,” said Miss Jones. “He asked me if
the weather got colder and if he would need more clothes.
It was really exciting.”
'Miss Lillian ’
AMERICUS, Ga. (AP) — President-elect Carter’s 78-
year-old mother has been released from the Americus-
Sumter County Hospital after treatment for muscle
spasms in her legs.
“Miss Lillian” Carter smiled and waved Monday to
reporters and friends waiting for her in the hospital lobby.
She said she was looking forward to getting her war
drobe ready for the trip to Washington for her son’s
inauguration Jan. 20.
I Betty Talmadge, a Georgia
businesswoman and wife of
U.S. Sen. Herman Talmadge,
also spoke at the meeting and
said the measure would be rati
fied someday with or without
Georgia. “But what a plus it
would be to Georgia to lead the
way in 1977...”
Mrs. Talmadge added that
some organizations, including
the Democratic National Com
mittee, are refusing to hold
their conventions in states
which have not ratified the
I ERA.
Rosalynn Carter, wife of the
president-elect, sent a telegram
to the group saying passage of
the ERA in Georgia “is close to
my heart.
