authority in his report tonight
that the affiliation will not cost
the local hospital anything at
first.
Later, however, there may be
minimal dues, he said. In the
future if the hospital decides to
spend up to SI,OOO in updating
the local library, there is grant
money available through the
consortium which will match $3
for every dollar spent, up to
SI,OOO.
This means the Griffin
hospital could obtain up to
$3,000 in books and journals
free, he explained.
Joining the consortium
enables the local staff to share
materials available through
Emory University, as a
regional medical library, and
through Gordon Junior College,
as a member of the state’s
library exchange system.
In addition to Gordon, the
consortium is made up of
Middle Georgia College in
Cochran; Veterans
Administration Hospital,
Dublin; Medical Center of
Central Georgia, Macon, and its
nursing school; Mercer
University School of Medicine,
Macon; Baldwin County
Hospital, Central State Hospital
and Georgia College, all in
Milledgeville; Medical Center,
West Central State Regional
Hospital, Martin Army
Hospital, all in Columbus.
The emergency room has a
new managing physician. Dr.
Selwyn Hartley, who has
worked at the hospital
previously and is well known to
both the medical staff and
community, will be the full time
physician manager. Doctors
presently working there will
remain, Feely said.
Feely also will announce that
Charles H. Faust has been hired
as nuclear medicine
technologist.
The new position is required
to operate the nuclear medicine
equipment which should be
ready for use around Dec. 1.
Renovation of the x-ray
department is expected to be
completed about Nov. 1.
Mr. Faust has just completed
8 years of service in the Army
and has had extensive ex
perience in the field of nuclear
medicine, Feely said.
Administrator Carl Ridley
has been commended by Sens.
Herman Talmadge and Sam
Nunn for his appearance before
joint hearings on health care in
Atlanta and Macon.
Feely will give copies of
Ridley’s letters from the
senators to authority members,
along with his monthly report.
The Griffin hospital has
signed a yearly contract with
the Spalding County Board of
Health to supply doctors for its
clinic.
Also, a working agreement
has been made with a new
nursing home in Barnesville to
send them patients when
requested by the patient, Feely
said.
Feely also will report that
Dan Barker, formerly affiliated
with the Griffin hospital has
been named chairman of the
Board of Regents of the
American Hospital Association.
Barker presently is ad
ministrator of Crawford W.
Ixmg Hospital in Atlanta, he
said. . - .. - :
