weds Mr. Gregory Dess
Miss Wanda June Cronic of
Atlanta and Mr. Gregory
Gwynne Dess of Seattle,
Washington were married in a
candlelight ceremony at
Wieuca Road Baptist Church in
Atlanta.
The Rev. Oliver Wilbanks
officiated at the double ring
ceremony. Mr. Mark Dess lit
the candles, including a candle
in the same brass candlestick
holder used in the groom’s
parents’ wedding ceremony,
given to them by the late Mrs.
Ruth Proctor Hughes, grand
mother of the groom.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. June Allen Cronic.
The groom is the son of Lt. Col.
(Ret.) and Mrs. William James
Dess of Sacramento, California.
Mrs. James R. Murphy,
soloist, and Mrs. Clyde Harling,
organist, presented a program
of wedding music.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a candle
light gown of silk organza ap
pliqued with medallions of
French alencon lace, em
broidered with seed pearls and
Austrian aurora crystal beads.
To compliment her gown, the
bride wore a cathedral length
veil of illusion appliqued with
alencon lace medallions at-

engagement and forthcoming
marriage of her daughter, Miss
Karen Joyce Grimes, to
Lieutenant Glenn Richard
Pearl, son of Sergeant Major
(retired) and Mrs. Horace
Pearl of Griffin.
Miss Grimes is the daughter
of the late Mr. Lodrick L.
Grimes of Milledgeville. She is
the granddaughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Grimes of
Milledgeville and Mr. and Mrs.
Luther T. Clack of Milledge
ville.
The bride-elect is a graduate
of Georgia Military High School

of orchids and she carried a
Brussels lace handkerchief, a
special gift brought to her from
Europe by Mr. Ernest B. Davis.
Matron of honor was Mrs.
Linda Cronic New of Atlanta,
sister of the bride. Bridesmaids
were Mrs. David Beech of
Cypress, Calif., sister of the
groom; Miss Laurie Epstein of
Lake Forest, 111., Miss Anne
Fayssoux of Avondale Estates,
Ga. and Mrs. Harrell Gilbert of
Griffin. Little Miss Tina Angela
New of Atlanta, niece of the
bride, was flower girl.
The attendants and flower
girl wore yellow gowns. They
carried silver, engraved
baskets, a present from the
bride, filled with yellow roses.
Mr. James Baldwin of San
Bruno, Calif, was the groom’s
best man. Ushers were Dr.
William Dess of San Diego,
Calif., Mr. David Dess of
Seattle, Wash., Mr. Mark Dess
of Sacramento, Calif., all
brothers of the groom, and Mr.
David Beech of Cypress, Calif.,
brother-in-law of the groom;
Mr. Alan Greene of Atlanta and
and a graduate of Georgia
Military College where she
received a degree in associate
in arts. She is presently at
tending Georgia College in
Milledgeville, majoring in
elementary education.
Lt. Pearl is the grandson of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Pearl of New York and Mr. and
Mrs. John Hattan of New York.
He is a 1971 graduate of
Griffin High School. He
graduated from Georgia
Military College with an
associates in arts and is also a
graduate of Georgia College
with a masters in education.
An October 15 wedding is
planned.

groom is pursuing a doctorate

Jones of Pike County and the
late Mr. Carey W. Jones of
Griffin and Mr. and Mrs. C. C.

He is a 1975 graduate of
Griffin High School and is in the
Marine Corp. Reserve. Mr.
Fowler is employed by United
McGill.
The wedding will take place
at the Central Lake Church of
God on Saturday, October 8 at 7
p.m. No invitations will be sent
but all friends and relatives are
invited.

length of peppermint green
chiffon styled with a squared
scoop neck, sheer capelet
sleeves and a tie-back sashed
waist.
Mr. Horace Bowen served as
his son’s best man. Groomsmen
were Mr. Ralph Standfield, Mr.
Judd McCluney, cousin of the
groom, Mr. Rick Clifton, Mr.

fellowship hall of the church.

the son of Mrs. Cornelia Wise of
Montgomery, Ala. and Mr.
Walter Wise of Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a white
gown of satin and chantilly lace
with a high empire neckline.
Lace appliques and iridescent
sequins highlighted the bouffant
skirt with the attached ruffle
edge train. Her chapel length
veil was bordered with mat
ching chantilly lace and
highlighted with iridescent
sequins and simulated seed
pearls. She carried a bouquet of
daisies, carnations and baby’s
breath with white seed pearls.
Mrs. Georgia Dunn, cousin of
the bride, was matron of honor.
She wore a floor length gown of
pale blue with matching cape.
She carried a single long stem
white mum.
