of the TDs was on a 27 yard pass from Reid to J. C. Davis.
Oklahoma, Ohio State
highlight college action
By The Associated Press
While today’s first-ever meet
ing between Oklahoma and Ohio

national attention, there’s a
pretty big game on tap tonight
which isn’t exactly going to
sneak up on the folks in Lub-

“There are going to be a lot of

LaGrange punted for the 6th

Willie Gault returned the kick

Reid then carried Griffin on a

Reid’s first completion was

it did it against a good

Coach Max Dowis said.

The coach said quarterback

The coach was happy with the

Valdosta zips Thomasville
By The Associated Press
Valdosta claimed a happy ending Friday night to a ca
tastrophic week when the Wildcats, Georgia’s No. 1 Class
AAA team, shut out archrival Thomasville 26-0 in a high
school football game.
“We’ve got the best 1-2 team in the state,” said Valdosta
Coach Nick Hyder, referring to an infraction of Georgia
High School Association rules discovered Wednesday,
causing the Wildcats to forfeit their victories over Crisp
County and Bainbridge.
Despite the forfeits, Valdosta still has a chance at the
region title since Crisp County was the only subregion
game.
Valdosta fullback Sam Fletcher, the leading rusher in
region lAAA, scored touchdowns on runs of three and
eight yards and quarterback Buck Belue hit Robert Smith
for a 35-yard touchdown.
The first touchdown came when Troy Thomas returned
a punt 50 yards to score for the Wildcats.
During the third quarter, Thomasville, in subregion
lAAA-South, managed to hold Valdosta, in 1 AAA-North, to
minus-yardage.
“It would have been a great game if we had to play only
one quarter,” mused Coach Jim Hughes of Thomasville,
now 2-1 and tied for 10th in AAA with Butler.
