This is an architect’s sketch of a new solar energy heated movie Jimmy Goolsby plans to

hardware dealer.
Customers are “scared to death of
fuel prices and an anticipated fuel
shortage,” Tuck said. “These folks
have more awareness and are learning
from grandmaw about conserving
energy. They know how to appreciate a
tree and what it can do to heat a home.”
Sales are up 50 percent from last
year, said G.B. Epps, manager of
Christian Hardware in Athens.
“We’ve sold more than we’ve ever
sold,” he said. “We used to sell only
three or four woodburning stoves a
winter.”
Connie Emgry of the R.L. Dunn Co. in
Macon said sales of stoves and ac
cessories are up. One stove gathered
dust on the floor all last winter, she
said. Two just like it have sold already
this fall.
In Tifton, Roddenbery Hardware Co.
manager Milton Cave said he’s
received a lot of requests about wood
buming stoves.

“We particularly had a lot of people
inquire during those first chilly days of
this month,” he said.
The drastic increase in sales began in
the middle of last winter and soared
this fall, said Fred DeLoach of DeLoach
Hardware Co., in Vadosta.
He noted that the old-fashioned pot
bellied stoves sell for about $99 and the
more expensive units with thermostats
and fans run about $450,
Ferman Hardee of Valdosta bought
his stove last winter because the price
of kerosene and power “had gone out of
sight.”
“So we got a wood-burning stove and
put it in a central spot in our house. The
fan blows heat all over the house. It
provides all the heat we need,” he said.
“All it costs me to heat my house
now,” he said, “is a little bit of elec
tricity it takes to run the fan and the
little bit of gas it takes to fill my chain
saw.”
