the present propitious stage of my disease.’
About five yeara ego, on my passage from
ttqrdeoux, during the month of January, from
ingtrudent exposure on deck, I was seised
with s violent fever. Having no medical at
tendants on board, I was compelled to bear
it, as I m-ght for two weeks, when on my ar
rival at Charleston, 8. C. it was treated as
Typhus, 7 he skill of my Physician subdued
the fever, but Pl-cenix-like, the termination
of this gave rile to a disease equally diatrew-

able. Variou* abscesses made tbeir unwel
come appearance, particularly on the joints,
which were swelled to in enormous aixe.—
t hese gradually subsided into hard tumon-s,
one of whieh on my left knee affected the
bore—an incision was now made and a Inrge

moit excruciating pains in my joints that man
