SiWil TUESDAY MORNING, APRIL 5, HIM, O'Subscribers to the Gxoeoian oh the Western route, tre informed that onooflhe editors will in a few days call upon them for the amount ofth'elr respective subscrip tions—of which all concerned will please take due notice. Tha publication of official advertise ment*, unavoidably, almost exclusively oc cupies our columns. They are, however, nearly concluded, ami We shall soon insert our usual quantity of miscellaneous matter. Latch rnoar Liverpool.—When our last paper was published, the letter bag of the Emily had not been delivered at the Post- Office. Among her letters were some writ ten on the afternoon of the 23d of Februa ry, containing advices of another advance in cotton, during that day, and the proba bility of a still further increase in price— The present spring has opened with a gold en prospect for the planters who have re tained their crops. Expresses, we under stand, were despatched by land and water, to Augusta, N. Orleans and Mobile, with the intelligence, for the purpose, we sup pose, of again scouring the markets of the west. The following is a copy of one of the letters alluded to: Liverpool, 23d February, 1825. We continue to experience au immense demand for cotton. Speculators are active, and consumers slarmed at the limited amount of stock, and slow arrival of supplies, are buying freely. Upwards of 50,000 bags have changed hands during the last ten days, and this is more than half the stock. Good Boweds are selling at‘l2jd. and we now quote them at It a 13d. Sea Islands C2d. a 2s. fld. Roots or Lapavette.—From the rapid movements of the General we have omitted to mention many circumstances which oc curred in this state. Some of these follow. The General arrived in Sparta at four o’ clock, on the afternoon of Saturday, 26th ult. and was met a few miles from the place by Brigadier General Abercrombie and ®*—•A^MLBuwt nrf.MjBirp. and a number of citizens on horseback. A handsome arch, with appropriate dec orations, had been erected across the prin cipal streets, through which the General and cavalcade passed to the quarters provid ed for him. He was there received by the Committee of Arrangements, and addressed by Thomas Haynes, Esq. in behalf of the .citizens. To this the General replied. He was then introdneed to the ladies and citi zens. After dinner he was waited on by 'the Masonic Brethren, and was addressed by Major T. P. Schlev, on their behalf.— He left Sparta at au early hour next morn ing, for Milledgeville. In Milledgeville, every thing was done to give eclat to the visit of the Guest of the Nation, and to do justice to the character of the state; for hospitality and patriotism, as well as to the distinguished individual to whom the same offerings have been made throughout our country.' We regret that our limits do not permit us to copy the ex cellent addresses of the Intendent and the Masonic Fraternity. In reply to the for mer, the General observed, “ From the mo ment when in the name of the people of Georgia, I have been on the borders of this state, must affectionately welcomed by its worthy Chief Magistrate, till the happy day when in this seat of Government, I received testimonies of esteem and friendship, so kindly expressed by you, sir, I have been impressed with lively sentiments of pleas ure and gratitude.” In Milledgeville, “ One circumstance,” says the Recorder, u which had a haupy ef fect, we had nearly forgotten. A nnmbor of little girls strewed flowers in his pathos he entered the Governor’s house on Sunday, accosting him with “ Welcome Lafayotte” —ha appeared grateful for the attentions of these children, speaking to them repeatedly with bis usual benignity.” A committee of the Now-York Legisla ture, in a report on the assessment and col lection of taxes, say it is probable “ Taxet will in a ehorl time be entirely diepenae.il with in this state," the revenue derived from the Canals being thraught sufficient lor all the purposes of the state government.! Such are the benefits of Internal Improvement. Charleetun,' April 1—Rice—Extensive operations were yesterday effected in our Rice Market.' Prime Rice huB fully advan ced one tborth, and inferior to middling ono-righth of a dollar. Whether the op erations are intended for speculation or for export, we arc not able to aKy. We are, however, inclined to believe that the re cent advances in the Liverpool market, and the deficiency of crops in the State of Georgia, together with the general impres sion of a deficiency of crops on the Conti sent of Europe, hare in a great measure led to the improvement in our murket. ARRIVED, Ship Eliza Ann, Leary. 12 days from St. Thomas and Turks blaud, with salt, bound to Wilmington, N. C. put in in distress, with the loss ol'tho head of main-mast,main top-most, end top-gallant-mnst, and other wise greatly damaged in hull and sails, the rudder sprung, leaking badly, , and muck of the salt dissolved. The E, A. received a pilot on board at New-Inlet, N.C. on Wed nesday last, and lay at anuhor waiting for 1 an opportunity to get in, until Friday night,' when a severe gale coming on from tho the Northward and Eastward, and the ship dragging both anchors, it wos found neces sary to cut away the small bower,. and put to sea. to prevent going ashore. During the gale the, ehip labored so bard, that she tore tho bolts out ofthe sides, and the dead eyes, and lanyards of the main rigging and backstays giving away in quick succession, could not be secured soon enough to save the main mast, which broke off near the top—the top-sail-yard falling on the enm- boose house and crushing it together with the cambonse—the railing and top-sail on the starboard side, were torn up at the some time, and the ship leaking badly, it was with much difficulty, while clearing the wreck, that she could be kept free.— Tile pilot, Mr. Thomas Craig.
