JFIVK OOI.I.4RS. FRIDAY MORNING. APRIL 15, 1025. Latest raoH England—The Cotton Market was yesterday again in a atato of great agitation, in consequence of the ar rival of the packet ship William Wallace, from New-York, which port she left on the •th iiiat. The intelligence was communi cated at an early hour in the morning, to one or two individuals, and before her ad vice. were generally known, purchase, to a large extent were made, we understand, during the morning, before and after the intelligence had leaked out, to the amount of five thnuound bales. The prices varied from 15 cents for very inferior, to 30 cents rot prime Uplands; and we understand that inferior Sea-Islands, which a week or two since were worth but 35 cents, were yes terday sold at 45 and 50, and stained at 30, Cotton Bagging has also risen in an extraordinary degree—35 centB having been refused—we believe it is held at 37. Wa learndd, on application for papers, that rone had been brought by the vessel. We have from the office of the Evening Post our usual papers, but they are not so late as the day on which the news is said to have arrived at new-York. The only in telligence which we have been enabled to obtain is, that the packet ship Cortes had arrived at New-York, with Liverpool ac counts to the 26th February, and that the TO THK KDITons OK THE OCondt AX. Although it was not the object of the wri ter in making up an exposition of the situa tion of the Branch Bank United States, at tho two periods above mentioned, to cast any unmerited odium upon the manage ment of the affairs of that institution, but simply to shew to the public what a vast sum had been paid into that Bank, in a period of four years and two months, during an almost unprecedented state of embarrass ment and difficulty; still he cannot exactly agree with 11 H." in nttriouring, at this mo intuit, the rise in cotton, *c. &.c. in the most remote degree, to the good effects of specie payments, as explained by iiint. I again repeat, that it is not more remar broad pendant of Commodore Warmno- i (table, than wonderful, that the people of ton, and tlm U. For tlm information of the Society we have introduced an abstract of the riport of the Treasurer of the Board of Ajfina- gers, ill relation to funds; the appripria- tion and the distribution of Bibles audTes- taments. At the tim» oftholnst annual repnrfhere remained, in the depository of the sociely, 49 English Testaments, 34 French Tes taments. nnd 25 Spanish Testuuicnts.— Since that period, the following additions have beun made :—Received from the American Bible Society, at several times 366 English Bibles 808 English Testaments, and 50 Spunish Testaments—from a gen tleman in the city 22 English Bibles. 12 French, 30 English, and '22 Spunish Testa ments. The whole number of Bibles and Testaments therefore, at the depository of the society, during the past year, has been as follows.:— English Bibles 338 ; English Testaments, 887; French Bibles, 34 ; French Tesla ments. 12 ; and Spanish Testaments. 97. From these tuc foliowing have been dis tributed : English Bibles. 153; leaving on hand 185 — English Testaments, 151 ;on hand. 63n— French Bibles, 8 ; on hand. 26—French Testaments,id); on hand, 12—Spunish Tes taments. 21; on hand, 73. The amount of money that has been in the hands of the Treasurer, is $141 22 cts all of which has been expended, except $6 44, in the purchase of Biblus and Testa ments. In reporting the operations ofthis society, we cannot pass, unnoticed, 'he efibrls and aid of the Southern Auxiliary Bible Society, which has contributed so largely to our funds, it proves how much may be done, by proper activity and spirit, and our records siiew that .our friends in the country, on which this society exists, have been enti tied to the name of principals ; and that they have kindly made us the almoners of their bounty. It is due to the members of that society, to incorporate thorn with mir selves, and offer these tributes for their unremitting zeal. Our numerous friends in the city, still continue their support of our society, anil Making together, the sum of 1,081,216 have bren made by the Branch Bank United States, between the 17th Oct. 1820, and 21st Dec. 1824, say 708,929 was employed iu the convoy of vessels to r.nd from Cuba. The writer of these remarks, has not been n inattentive observer of the events to We see mulling to discourage us in our affairs, wo have confidence that the same power that formerly supported, will still continue the aid wo require, and be with us unto the end. The constitution of tho Sociely imposes Ihe duty on the Managers of making these reports, and they cherlully embrace such opportunities of appealing to tlie Christian feeling, and the liberality of the Society, and of those persons who at tend your anniversaries. For this end, we state the occurrences of your own Society, and travel round the world for facts and principles which may render our remarks more interesting. We know of no instance of a Bible So ciety being dissolved after its commence,- ment. The institutions of charity, and tlie combinations for profit, amusement or profligacy have been broken ; tint the Bible cause unites so mnnv pious hearts in fervent prayer and active labors, that they must remain as monuments of mercy, me morials of benevuience, and objects of Di vine favor.
