transports, with French and Spanish troops,
under convoy of two French frigates, had
arrived at St. Johns, besides wliich, a fri-

allowed for a short term, to devote himself
to the arrangements of his private concerns
here ; after whicli he is to leave tlie island.

in good Uplands, which are the qualities
chiefly sought after, and holders ire keep

Liverpool March 24.—Tlie demand for
Cotton at the commencement of the week
was limited. Tho sales amount to 3830
bags. Yesterday the demand revived, and
upwards, of 8000 bags were Bold. »f which
4000 were uplands at I5d, and 30 hags at
15}d, making a general advance ofjd, and
on uplands Jpi on the lowest depression of
Monday. 1000 bhls. of Turpentine sold at
13s 6d. Ashes are dull withont alteration
in prices. Tobacco heavy t also Grain and
Flour. Rica 20* a 22s. Very little doing in
Dyo woods. °
