Furthkr Aovanci. in the Cotton Mar ket.—Two expresses were received in this city on Saturday afternoon, one by land the other by water, from Charleston, soon af ter which much bustle took place in the Co'ton market, and a considerable quantity was purchased. The sales mado wero gen erally'at from 24 to 27 cents—and in one instance, one hundred and twenty bales were taken at 27$ cents. That favorable intelligence bad been received, was gener ally known before dark; but the date of the advices, or the price to which the arti- C " Imd arrived in Liverpool, was quite un certain up to last evening—nothing being known positively exaept to thoso who re ceived the expresses. The intelligence, it a meers was received by the brig General Brown, which letters received here of the 31st Marco, from Liverpool, state, had been taken up as a despatch vessel, and which arrived otf Charleston Bar on Friday.— Th* amount of the intelligence is, that Up land Cottons had gone as high, in the Liv er: ,.,] market, as eighteen pence three far 41*VL* Oliwil»»uu Mci»ulyi wf Oat' urday says, in % postscript, dated at twelve o’clock P. M. “ It is certain that the General Brown is oT the bar—-It is likewise certain that Up lands had advanced fully two pence per lb. when she left Liverpool, and every sort of Cotton was rapidly advancing. This infor mation is positive and authentio ” We have not been able to obtain any fur ther intelligence. The above, however, it will be perceived is “ positive and autheo tic,” and must supply the place of particu lnrs. Since the above was prepared, we have reieived by the brig New-Hanipahire, which left Charleston yesterday morning and ar rived, last evening, the Charleston Pulriol of Saturday evening, from which we ex tract the following : ‘•From Lm ryaw/—The British hrig Gener al Brown. CHptain Sharpe, arrived otf the bar yesterday from Liverpool, as a despatch vessel. We learn verbally from a source on which full reliance may be placed, that the accounts by her are to the evening the 1st of April, she having sailed on the morning of the 2d. A postscript to a letter dated the eveing of the 1st, at 8 o’clock, quotes the prices of Upland Cotton at lUjd and that the demand was improving, and prices likely bo go higher. Ill consequence of the above advices, extensive operations in the Cotton Market were made yesterday and to-day, at an advance of from 3 to cents in Upland, and 5 cents in S. Islands.” The General Brown was coming up wiicn the above paper went to press. Expresses wcr.e dispatched from Charles ton to Augusta, and Columbia, as well as to Savannah ; and the pilot boat Savannah White, of this port, was also dispatched for Ncw-Orleans. A letter from Augusta states that an express had been received there, and that one individual alone diapnsed of 2,500 balos, and probably other extensive sales wero made-- As an instance of fortunate speculation, we will mention the following, of which we tire excilod these remarks of the outrages. We add Journal:— “Those events have produced a deep sen sation among the people of this state. The belief is pretty general that white men have been the instigators of these outrages, and the exasperation of the public mind a- gainst them is high. Anil so it ought to be: for in M’Intosli wo have lost a Chief who as the white man’s friend. In the most trying times of the late war lie stood linn on our side, lie bore the commission of Brigadier General, conferred on him by the government of the U. S. as a reward for his fidelity to our interests and his skill and courage in the field uf battle. To this state his services were great, both in wic field and in the council of his nation. Wo believe that had it not been for his exertions, Georgia would not now be in irosscssion of single foot of land west of the Ocinulgce river. To liia own nation his death is a loss as great ns it is to us. Rising superior to whut we generally see in the nature and character of the Indian, he saw clearly in what the true interests of his people consist ed. He embraced with eagerness the pro- posals of the President of the United States to concentrate all the tribes now residing in the U. S. on lands west of the Mississip. pi, where more efficient measures might be ado ted for their civilization, and was pre paring to set out on a journey to the west to explore the country—For his devotion to the true interest of his own people, and for his exertions in furthering the benovolent views of the President, a cruel and iglio miuiouu death haB been his rcwhrd. And wnnr maxes inis neon or nigncr importance to the U. S. it was done by the remnant of that part of the tribe, who, in tho late war joined the standard of our enemy, and oc casioned the expenditure of so much blood and treasure in the suppression and punish ment of their enormities.
