There is perhaps no medical observation
better established, none more generally con
•rmed by the experience of the best physici*
ms of all agea and countries, and none oi
.••ore importance to the human family, than
the fact that many of the most difficult and in
curable consumptior.a originate in neglect d
colds- In a climate so variable as ours, where
the changes of the wea.her are frequently
sudden and unexpected, it requires more care
»md attention to guard against this dangerous
enemy of life, than most people imagine or
are able and willing to bestow. The bills ot
mortality exhibit the melancholy fact that the
proportion of deaths by this disease may be
considered as about five to one. Inasmuch
then as this fatal disease frequently bids defi
ance to the skill of the most learned phyaici
-ins, it is a gratificat on to the proprietor that
iie is enuhled to otter to those afflicted with
it, s go .d'y prospect of reiief, in that l-ighl>
valuable remedy, the Vegetable Indian Speci
fic. The Indians are happy in their know
ledge of medical plants j governed wholly h>
-xperience, they are certain as to their effect,
sod it is said by an author of great character,
hat a true consumption is a disease never
known among them.
This Specific is obtained by extrsetion from
herbs, roots, flowers, plint , &c. when in per
fection. In consequence < f a happy comhina-
iion of the most valuable herbs, &c. it becomes
i balsam of a superior value. It heals the in-
jured parts, opens the pores, and composes
•he disturbed nerves, after the manner rf an
modyne; consequently the obstruction ol
he chest and the lungs which constitute tin*
disease, particularly need its use. It promotes
expectoration, which is constantly called for,
and whilst it cleanses and heals, it also givet
length to the tender lungs In this msnuci
it removes the hectic fever, improves diges
tion, gives strength to the nerves, repairs the
.ppitite and improves the spirits. This speci
tic mav always be given in safety it is mild,
•lehaant to the tasie, and may safely be given
o infants, for which it is of inestimable value.
It affords relief in bowel complaints, teething,
vhooping coughs, He. and is found particu-
;triy useful in hypochondriacal, nervous ano
<tvstoried diseases. Each bill oi direction
''ontains a detailed account of this disease in
nil its different stages, and will be accompa
