The following leUer : from Cantorac, to | the person having the highest number of votes shall be entitled to the first i hoice of districts and in the acme O'd- r, agreeahlv to Lottery and Banks.—Wc have receiv ed from r correspondent at Milledgeville, a copy of the bill providing fur tho survey and disposal of the new territory, which we in sert in another column. We have also re ceived a copy of tho correspondence be tween Mr. Spalding, the President of the Rank of Darien, and the Presidents of the State and Planters’ Banks in this city, on the subject of an amicable settlement of the diffiMiccs existing between those in stitutions, the substance of which we gave on another occasion, and which, it will be remembered, eventuated unsuccessfully.— It is introduced with the following remarks: “The following documents are submitted to the Legislature by the Bank of Darien, for the purpose of removing an impression which appears to be prevalent, that tho Bank has been entirely indifferent about, the depreciation of its bills, and that noth ing has been dotio by it to restore their credit. “It is believed that when tho largo amount of cotton in Augusta and Savannah sblall have been shipped, the bills of the Bank will be restored to their credit by the natural course of tilings. This cotton is continually changing hands, and these ope rations nefes arily create a demand for Bankable Money. The month of June will, At is believed, put an end to these opera tions. The demand for Bankable Money will then in a great measure cease—and with it, it is hoped, the difference between the bills of the Darien Bank and those of the other state institutions. “ On the 18th inst. the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, deposited in the Darien Bank one hundred thousand dol lars, of the funds of the United States— This shews that the Bank has not lost thf good opinion of tliut Department. ‘•Ijtatcmonts of the condition oT the Bank arc forwarded to the Department monthly. “ May 35, 1823." Mr. Henrv Crowell has published iu the Milledgeville papers, a reply to the state ment of Mr. William G. Macon, which We published some time since. It is suffi cient to ssy, that every statement made by Mr. Macon, in reference to II. Crowell, is pronounced by the latter “« lie." Mr. Crowell also in the Macon Mes senger, denies the statements mude in that paper, as to- his conversations relative to the late transactions in the Creek Nation— and produces the certificates of two per sons who were present at tiie time tho in formant ofthc Messenger was at C’s. house, and who state that they heard no such con versation as reported. What possible in terest the informant of the Mncon Messen ger could nave in uttering a misrepresenta tion, we are at a loss to discover. The boat-race., for $ 1000 aside, between the Whitehall Boatmen and those of Sta ten Island, took place in the harbor of New Y-irk. on the 20th instant—tho purse was won by the former, iter antagonist, being left about forty, yards in a distance of live miles. A ruce also took place at Baltimore, on the 19th instant, for 1000 dollars, between a New York and Baltimore boat—the latter coming in about 100 yards, m a distance of one mile and a quarter.' Such iR the demand for Cotton-Seed in the neighborhood of Chcraw, S. C. for the purpose of planting an increased quantity, that it is selling at five dollars per bushel. The illustrious Hnrqboldt, snvs a Liver pool paper, is the president of an associa tion for opening a communication between the Atlantic and 1’ucific. There are two associations, totally unconnected with each other lor opening communications between the two Oceans. Tiie association of which Humbuldt is president, proposes to cut a ship canal by the Isthmus of Tcluiantope in the stale of Mexico ; the other intends tu perform a similar work by the Lalio Ni caragua in tho state of Gualimala. It is e:u 1 that the newspapers of Edin burg have fairly frightened Kean from his engagement in that moral and intellectual capital. This fact does much honor to “ auli Rekic." vanquished foe, as well as tn the victor:— Private Iptterfrom General Conferee,fo his Excellency the Liberatur, Don Simon Boli var.—“ As a lover of glory, although van quished,! cannot avoid congratulating your Excellency, on having terminated yopr en terprise in Peru, by the memorable achieve ments of Ayacucho. Under this impres sion, I hnvc the honor to introduce myself to you, and also to salute you in the name of tho other Spanish Generals. 1 am your humble obedient servant, JOSE CANTERAC. Humnngn. The Colombiaiio of the 6th, contains the correspondence between Bulivur, and the the President of tho Senato of Colombia, commnnicatng the third resignation by tho Liborator of the dignity of President, and tho third refusal by tiie Congress to accept it. A gang of counterfeiters were recently routed front their haunt by a party of arm ed citizens from Mount Sterling, Kentucky. The camp of money making gentlemen wos about thirty miles from the abovo place— where they carried on thn business whole sale, having a water mill. They Imil obout 6000 dollars on bund, principally on the Bunks of Tennessee, New-Orleans, and Soutli-Carulinn, which wore well executed. Two of the party were taken, and three mude their escape. Copy of a letter dated Manchester, A- pril 10—The great advance in raw Cotton, Silk, sheep’s Wool, and l)yo Sliitfs, has pro duced a relative advance in Cotton, silk, woulcti and worsted goods. Cotton 1ms advanced 100 per cent within six months, and a general expectation of 60 per cent advance on present prices seems to prevail anmngthose who are interested iu the trade. Silk has risen 50 per cent, and sheep’s wool 50 per cent within eix months—and I find it is believed by thnso who are engaged in thn trade, that prices will coutiiiue to ad vance thro’ this year. Ilian PntCEi op Cotton.—Wo under stand that, in consequence oftlio high price of cotton, it is tho intention of the master aattflit.flpinprft.ftt' A<Uiyl.f—U»ul«a. and tho adjacent places, to convene an early meeting, for tho purpose of discussing tho propriety of shortening the hours of la bor in their several manufactories. ■ l <ancheslcr Guardian. COTTON.—A considerable business lias been limn in Uplands since our lust, princi pally on'Friday and Saturday, at various prices, from 24 to 28, and in one instance us high ns 30 cents we understand were given for a very prime lot. A pretty large quantity also changed hands yesterday, upwards of 2000 bates, at 27$, 28 sud 29 cents. Tiie accounts by the Amethy*/. are ho fuvorablo, that, holders are asking shout •2 cento advance on the prices cf the \vA week. Sea Islands uro held at 60 tn Si5— we have heard of v»o sales since tiie last advices from Liverpool* The Hales of the last week were upwards of 5000 bales.— Reports were in circulation yesterday, that nu express had ai rived with more fa* vorablc intelligence, which may liaveori* rinated in a large purchase by one hon.-n- jnt we are sssurred that they were predict* ted on letters by the Amethyst. The usual nxiety and bustle however, which imV succeeds the arrival of an express, hns rrt been seen—and holders are perfectly wil ling to sell. It will be perceived by aw letter under tho commercial head, that i:i express has been received in that city te® Charleetoti. Letters of Saturday, receiv ed here last night, Ktato that they ndvi# the price of Uplands in the Liverpool Mir* ket, at 20 a 20$d. We arc inclined to think, however, that the intelligence re ceived. is the same us that received here on Saturday, per Amethyst. RICE—Continues dull, and maybe quo* ted nt J3 a 4.
