labOTLIOritT SPRINGS,
1M 4 VIRGINIA,
This new and elegant estab
lishment, will be open tor the re
ception of company as usual, next
season. The quality of the wa
ter is bumming so well known, in conse
quence if the grunt numbers of persons tbho
used and received benefit from them the last
season, that the subscriber deems it scarce
ly necessary to enter into a detail of thoir
properties and effects. He will, however,
for the information of those who may still
remain unacquainted with them, remark,
that, there are two springs—the waters of
one of which, arc strongly impregnated with
sulphur »nd mngnesin—the other with iron.
The first acts on some as a mild, on others,
ns an active cathartic, and arc strongly re
commended in complaints of the liver and
kidneys, dispensh and in all diseases aris
ing from a disordered stomach. They at
otice remove indigestion nnd the cause by
which it is produced, restore lost nppetite,
purify the blood, ami exhiliurate the spirits.
In cases of debility and weakness, they iiave
be*n found particularly efficacious. The
waters of the other spring are strongly ton
ic, and thought very proper to he used after
drinking the sulphur water. To promote
the effects of each, hot, cold and shower
baths are provided.
Thu buddings of this cstnblishmnnt, as
mentioned in a former advertisement, are
all of brick, and in an eminent degree unite
noatness, convenience and comfort. These
points iiave keen particularly attended to
in those departments intended for the use
of ladies or families. The adjacent moun
tains abounding in game, gentlemen fond
of hunting, will have an opportunity of in
dulging in that pursuit. Those preferring
more inactive amusements, will find news
papers books, chessmen, backgammon ta
bles, 4c,
Amusements also for the ladies have not
been overlooked : Music of the best kind
will be provided for duncing- and such as
are fond of playing on the Forte i'lauo, will
find in the drawing room an elegant one
provided for thoir uso. Moderate exercise
un horseback or in carriages, being consid
ered very proper whilst using the waters,
tlie subscriber takes this occasion to remark
that the part of tlie country jn which Ins
springs are situated, are peculiarly adapted
to this kind of exercise—they are surround
ed on every side by lotVy mountains, with n
rich and keuutiful valley intervening be
tween. This valley affords excellent reads,
and in riding out, the pure sir inlmlcd Ire
fr un the mountains, acting in connexion
with the waters, at once gives assurance
of returning health, even to the greatest
invalid-
Gentlemen from the Smith, wishing to
dispense with the use of carriages and hor
ses, can come directly to the spot without
incurring tlie expense of either—they wil
proceed by water from Savannah, Charles,
tiouor any otlier soTiiliern port, to Norfolk,
tinmen in the steam-boat to Richmond, from
whence there is twice a week, a mail stage
that now jiasses within two miles of this
place, and after the 15th of June, will
come directly to tlie sput. passing through
the flourishing town of Lynchburg. After
arriving here and remaining as lung as
is agreeable, they can then proceed to any
of the adjacent springs they may choose in
a buck kept by the subscriber tor that pur
pose. The distance to tlie Sweet Springs,
is thirty-aeven miles—to the White Sulphur,
fifty-five—’o the Sweet aud Salt Suphiir,
sixty—to tlie Red Sulpher. seventy-two—
and to the Hot and Warm Springs, between
sixty and seventy miles.
li is recommended to gontlemen intend
ing to visit any of the Virginia Watering
Places, to have thoir letters addressed to
tlioBoletourtSprings. It being tlie first wa
tering pla e they will touch at in going, and
the lust in returning, they will experience
great convenience in following these direc
tions—-because on their arrival they may
find letters from home, and during their
stay, will have an opportunity of hearing
from their friends every other day, as the
mail from the South arrives three times a
week. If after remaining with the subscri
ber as long as is agreeable, they should
choose to proceed to any of the neighbor
ing springs, lie promises that their letters
shall be carefully forwarded, whithersoever
they may direct.
CHARLES JOHNSTON.
