About five years ago, on my passage from
Hirdestix, during the mouth of January, from
imprudent exposure on deck, I wxs seized
with a violent fever Having no medical at-
*cni1n„t. o» Hoard, I was compelled to bear
it, aa I ought lor two weeks, when on my sr-
ival st Charleston, S. C. it wss tresled as
Typhus. Tbe skill nf my Physician subdued
the fever, but P‘ anix-like, the termination
nf thit gave ria- to a disease equslly distress
ing, and which, till nnw, I had thought incur-
-ble. Various abscesses made their unwel-
-om* appearance, particularly on the joints,
which weir :-weded to an enormous aiae.—
These g adually subsided into hard tumors,
one of which on my left knee affected the
bone—on ine ainn was now made and a large
evacuation nfnus, mixed with pinur, of bone

ever experienced. Every tiling that was
admini-terrd either gave me no relief nr ser
ved to aggravate the disease, the aeverity nf

of ever being restored to my beal-h ; 1 had

hut used, though in vain, every popular rem

house, or keeping him from his business.—
With one solitary exception, that of spiritu
ous liquors, it doco not lay any restrictions upon

proprietor to take any thing lor which he
cannot give a consideration equal in value,
