On Thursday, his msjesty’s ship Blossom Capt. F. W. Beoehoy. sailod upon hot in teresting voyage of discovery and Burvey in the Pacific. Alter visiting Pitcairn Inl and. Otahcitc, Easter, and Friendly Islands, and sotting, indisputably, the position of all the islands with which that neighborhood abounds, we understand the Blossom is to proceed to Behring’s Straits, and if the sea son admit of it, to proceed round lev Cape, (which has not beon effected since Captain Cook's discovery.) along the northern shores of America towards Hecln and Fory Strait, for the purpose of falling in with Captain Franklin or Captain Parry ; and if Captain Beechoy find tile sen open, it is most likely that he will not omit so t'ortu- siatean opportunity of accomplishing this desirable object. We understand also,Hint the Blossom is to complete the survey of the const, of America in such pnrts about Behring’s Straits ns are imperfectly known; and after having rendured Capt. Franklin the assistance he may require, she is to pro ceed entirely upon discovery, directing her route for such purpose towards those parts of the Pacific which arc the least known or frequented. She is furnished with a large supply of presents, for the purpose of bar tering with the islanders, and has on board a handsome present for the King of Otu- huite, and the King oftlie Sandwich Islands —The lords of the admirality have ap- •tinted Mr. Trad,'scant Lay, as naturalist ■to the expedition.—Lon. May 23 Colton.—Tho sales of last week consist of 2100 bags at prices same as last week— The following are the particulars, viz : 200 bags remains fair to good, 22d per ib., in bond; 000 Surats, 10. to 13d ; 300 Bengals, 9jd to 10Jd ; 300 Egyptian, 21Jd ,to 2Id. Since tile abova report, the sales in Cot ton have been limited, prices.are rather lower. The quantity consists of about 6000 bags Surats, 550 Bengals, and 257 Bour bons ; it is expected that there, will be a good attendance of buyers, next week. The Liverpool Markets, Monday, May 23. s—Colton—At the commencement of tho Week there appeared an almost total sus pension of demand for all descriptions, and it would have been difficult to effect sales beyond a very limited extent, except at a cooci' i'rable reduction ; under these cir cumstances holders not being willing to press sales, the depreciation was not con siderable, not exceeding in any instance jd to Jd per lb. The market remained in this torpid state until Friday, when the curren cy was again forced up, by a speculative demand, to tho quotations of Friday se’n- nighi.wiih the exception of Brazils and Egyptian, which remain fully id per Ib. low er. Tho total transactions ofthe week are Confined to 7611 bags, of which have been purchased by speculators 3000 American, 700 Brazil, and 800 Egyptian, the trade ha ving taken little more than 3000 bBgs From the sparing manner in which the dealers and consumers have latterly suppli ed themselves, (being greatly inadequate tu meet the average weekly consumption) it may fairly be inferred that their stocks are getting exceedingly light: this considera tion supports tlie confidence of the holders, and appears to have mainly operated in re newing the speculative demand at the close of the week. The following are the par ticulars of the sales:— 3719 boweds at !4j to 19d; R24 Alaba ma and Mobile, 16j tnllljd; 176 Orleans, 134 to 21d ; 106 Sea-Island, 2s 5 jd to 3s 3d —725 Pernams, 21J to 22d; 551 Mnran- hams, 20j to 214d ; 330 Baliias and Maco- as, 204 to 21 Jd; 08 Demeraras, 20 to 2ljd ; 1010 Egyptian, 20 to 21d; 24 Bourbon 19Jd —31 West India, 16d ; and 45 Bengal, at 9jd per lb. Monday Evening, 5 o'clock.—The market opened on Saturday morning with a prom ise of extensive sales in the course of the day, and some considerable business was done in the early part; towards noon the demand slackened, after which nothing of consequence was done. To-day the mar ket has evidently stiffened, and purchases have with more difficulty been made at pre vious prices, at which there has been a brisk inquiry, and the sales up to this hour aro estimated at upwards of 4000 bags, and it is reported an advance of jd to Jd per lb. has in some instances been obtained. Tuesday Evening, May 24—The cotton market is brisk to-day, and considerable bu siness is doing. We have been favored with the following extract of a letter, from the house of TIiob. Wright Watson, to a mercantile gentleman efthis city, dated, "Liverpool, 25th May.—The demand for Cotton in the early part of last week was extremely limited 1 towards the end it improved, and has become very steady.— The sales last week were only 7600 bags, and prices declined Id.
