June 89 nea- Sir—You expressed a wish that 1 would give* concise statement of my Buffer ings. from ' the uopelcis commencement, to the present propitious stage of mv disease About live years ago, on tuy passage fro; Hortlcatix, during the month of January, from ■mprudent exposure on deck, 1 was seized with a violent fever. Having no medical at tendants on board, I was compelled to bear it, as I might for two weeks, when on my ar rival at Charleston, S. C. it wlla treated a-- fvphtia. Tbe skill of mjt Physician aubdmtd the fever, but Plicsnix-like, the tet minatio: of this gave ris- to a disease equally distress tag, and which, till now, I had tli.-ught incut able. Various abscesses nude their unwel come appearance, particulrrlyon the joints, which were swelled to an enormous size.— These g'adually subsided into hard tu-nors, •me uf which 011 my left knee affected the bone—an incision was now made ami a large evacuation of tuts, mixed with pieces of hone took place. 1 -i addition to this, I suffered the nuts* excruciating pains in my joints that man ever exp ritnccd. Every thing that wss ;'dmini"-tcred either gave me no reliefer ser ved to aggravate the disease, the severity of which inu- .used with every succeeding year. Such was my paintuiai uatton that I despaired of ever being restored to my heal h ; Iliad not only tried the tegular means of relief, but uied, though in vain, every popular rcm. edy 1 cnuld hear of- It was in this uv fu! ami despond-ng condition, that I was persuaded lo ..ommence a course of your Vegetable Ciuli -I icon, and the happy remit is, "/omf/tc use of the live bottles, my -whole .ys'rm hits under gone a complete revouiion, my pains Itiivsfo mi- ke:\ me S’ the discharge Irani my knee beg.ut 10 diminish, and soon ceased altogether, the ulcer lit, m whence it proceeded being com pletely healed. Tho tumors, for the removal of which I have tried in vain more remedies than 1 can name, are rapidly decreasing ; my appetite, which was gone, has returned—I am in fact, nearly well, and feel confident that a few bottles more of your, (to me) invaluable medicine, will make me perfectly to. Your obliged friend, THOMASUltOWN, JR. Philadelphia, July ”6, 1824. My confidence in the vegetable catholicou is iiiiditninUhed, and as fresh in-tsnees of its powers are daily occurring, in my own prac tice. 1 have no iiesitstion in recommending it. in the peculiar diseases tu which it is applica ble, as superior to any remedy I am acquaint ed with, M. For nearly aix years I have been s martyr to a disease, whose ravages threat ened, if not soon stopped, to put a period to my existence. Having had no regular medi cal advice from the commencement, my complaint at last got to auch a height that I could not swallow without great pain and difficulty.
