Mr. W IP. Poller,
Dear Sir—You exp rr vied a wish that
would give a concise statement of my atiffcr
ings. from ’ the nopeleas commencement, u
the present propitious stage of mv disease.’
About live ydars sgo, on my pesssge from
Bordeaux, duting the month of January, from
imprudent exposure on deck, 1 waa seised
-with a violent fever. Having no medical at
tendants on board, I waa compelled to bear
it, as I might for two weeks, When on my ar
rival at Charleston, S. C. it Was fretted as
i'yphua. The skill of my Physician subdued
the fever, but Pl-.tanix-like, the termination
of thii gave ria- tu a disease equally distrea-
-ng, and which, till now, I had th,night incut
able. Varioua abaceaaea made then unwrl
tome-appearance, particularly on the joints,
which were swelled to an enormous fixe.—
These gradually subsided into herd tumors,
one of which on my left knee sffected the
hone—sn incision wss now made and a large
evacuation of pus, mixed with pieces of bunr
took place. In addition to this, I suffered ih
most excruciating ptinsin my joints that mar-
over experienced Every thing that was
udmiuistcred either gave me no relief ur aer
ved to aggravate the iiaease, the severity d
whirh increased with every succeeding year.
Suck was my painful ai uallon that I-'espsirei
of ever being restored to my hcsl h ; I hsd
not only tried the reanilcr means of relief,
but used, though in vsin, every popular rem
edy 1 could bear of. It waa in this awful and
deapond-ng condition,! hat I was persuaded to
commence a course of your Vegetable f\th I
