The Intelligence from Greece is of a Boro gratifying character than that reeeiv- ad by previoos arrivals. Oo tbo same day the Turkish fleet svas attacked by 13 Greek ships, who burnt o frigate, a corvette sod a large achoo- U«r, and took one brig. Tho English funds are said have a great londoooy to advanoe, notwithstanding the ef fects of speculators to depress them. Accounts ofthe 'capture of Arraoan have baen received' in England. The American Frigate is another, cause ofembarra-sment. “It is naual when a frigate enters the port, for her to salute the batteries with fifteen guns, but this salute must be'returned by an equal number Now our goverement are afraid that 'if they reply to the Americau salute, the people will think they are expending powder in honor of Lafayette, but if they do not agree to return, they will be obliged to let the frigate enter without saluting, for they well know that the American captain will not burn a match without an assurance of re ciprocity.” An idea of the means of information pos sessed by tho people of Spain,.may be for-' med from, the fact, yhat it waa believed there, that a civil war io the United States would inevitably grow out. of the recent Presidential election, apd Spain then recov er her-Colonies. Laborers oo the National Roard through Ohio, are hired at six dollars per month, and many more apply for employment than can obtain it even at that very low price.— We quote this feet to ahew that should any plan for the carrying into effect t system of internal improvement io this Mote, be adopted, laborers may be obtained, and at a rate probably more reasonable than is generally supposed—little over twenty cente per working day—found we supposeIn food. A London paper states that it was no soo ner known with o degree of certainty that Sir Charles Stuart was to gh over to Ri„ de Janeiro, on a sppeial mission, and intrust ed also with the dispatches of the King of Portugal, than a minister extraordinary was appointed in Paris, with the greater secrecy, who actually arrived in the Braxil- lian capital several days before Sir Charles reached it from Lisbon. Regardless of tbo past, all des criptions qf men, particularly at.Liverppol, rushed to the field ; and from the scrying shopman, shipwright, and apothecary, to their masters, to merchant^ add to retired gentry, all would purebaaecotian wool. The sates *t Liverpool soon became invigorated, from 12,00(1 to 16,000, and even'46,000 bags per week. Away went prices, aad if there wefe occasional checks of Id., it wps only to announce the next day an advanced of 3d pir ib. Prices gradually advance from a medmm of 9d. for Uplands to IBd.; for Egyptian from lOd to (3d. t for Pernambuco from I lid. to 33d., fee. The speculators, however, forgot oeu important feature of such octasioru, and particularly the sage whoso writioga and figures had set the game up-»vii. that great prices ciroumscribe consumption, and com mand supplies from every region. The cot ton spinners became alarmed, and finding, that the. market for twist and peicu goods bore no relative proportion to the buoyant prices of the raw materials, suddenly held off, borrowed from oacn other,- and placed their men on one-third and halftime. The boasting ioat before, and coming from the same author' jority, was thus—holder* of up lands might just as well have 3d. per Ib. for it as lets. • Our import* poured in, and our market became stagnant. Draughts for first unit came due, and the hour of sorrow pressed onward l Uulders pressed tales; and after a varied and obstinate struggle, prices have settled down at within a shade of the rates from which they atarteditbe losses will average Sd. to lOd. per Ib. in Liverpool or £5 to £10 per bag. The ruin of four em inent houses at Liverpool has already taken place whose losses cun ill' be repaid by their debtors in America ; besides countless num hers Who suffer both here and iu the coun try, whose, deprivation may never meet the pdblic eye. Already we have an import to the'kingdom up to the 3d of September of upward* of 610,000 bags sgaiqat 412,963 in tha corresponding period of last year, though it waa gravely "pronounced we could not have within 40,000 bags of the importa tion of 1834. In the midst of this ruin, one good, and that a 'national oae, is effected.— Our magnificient oottoa-manuheture, which owes its greatness to moderate prices and unrivalled machinery, rears aiew her head, and throwing off the shacklei of high prices will again enable us to undersell all the mar kets of the «rerid.
