Excruciating and deep sealed treated with this remedy with e»u From the Report of the Committee op the Medical Society. “—That the Syrup of Salza is an effectual re medy iu a great number of nuzzling cases of chronic discuses, wo havo not only tho testimony of the French physicians, hut tho experience of a number of rospccluhlo physicians in tiiis city, who havo had nn opportunity of testing tho remedy iu cuscs of tho most obstinate chrome eliaructer in tho public institutions, where patients labouring under incur able diseases iu the samo wards, seeing its remark able effects under the most discouraging circum stances, would cutrcut to ho allowed the remedy, or use stratagems to obtain it; and even iu these hopeless cases it afforded more or less relief. Ul cerous soro throats, which arc of an indolent and languid character, und which ure usually compli cated with tho other symptoms of mercurial dis eases, such as cutaneous affections of tho skin, diseases of tho joints, bones, &c., tho Syrup of Salza, if uersevered in for six or eight• weeks, will in general perfect a curb. Aud although this mode of treatment is not so expeditious ns tho mercurial plan, it possesses this advantage, that tho patient comes out of it with u constitution unimpaired; nny, ho is oftencr in higher health than he enjoyed before. Not only syphilitic, but other ulcers, which arise from a vitiated state of the body, and have long resisted all the various modes of treatment, will ge nerally heal under this Remrdt with little aid from external means. The rcmovul nf diseases so opposite In their character ns many of these ulcers are; is truly surprising, and can only be accounted for by supposing, that the use of the medicine produces a general and material change throughout the system. The value of the Syrup of Saha is best displayed in those complicated forms of disease, occurring iu constitutions fairly demolished or ruined by the excessive use of mercury, exposure to cold intern- perato living, Let puins, havo been — ,— „ tire success. Many chronic eruptions, usually sup posed to proceed from syphilis, and many that certainly aro not so, will yield to this remedy, and na matter what may bo tucir character or nature, from the simple herpes (itch) to the loathsome le- prosy, this remedy is well worthy of a trial. The fiiuatj. lino iciauuy in nut iTuiwiy ut u first indication of amendment is improvement in health, with return of appetite, and m In some eases, where the disease has bi nightSs , ,— of long standing, the joints will remain somewhat swelled; but the patient will recover his health, with fulness nnd plumpness of habit. Besides these effects, this medicine exhibits tonic powers; under its regular use the appetite improves, all the func tions indicate the existence of a moderate state of excitation, especially those of nutrition, and the iftticnt acquires a degree of vigour ho had long een unaccustomed to. Beforo closing this report, vo shall take the liberty of subjoining an extract from Mr. Fordice’s excellent paper: ‘‘ This medi cine. iu u very short time, will relieve syphilitic headttchs and nocturnal muni, and if persisted in 1 believe will always curlr In emaciated or weak constitutions, it is the greatest restorativa of appe tite, flesh, colour, strength, and vigour, I know of.” Signed, FELIX PASCALIS, M. Gentlemen— 1 feel it my duty to acknowl edge the great benefit 1 havo derived from the use of De La Montcrat’s Columbian Veg etable Specific!. I do not like to speak ol the Medicine in the exalted terms in which l estimate it, l will, therefore, as briefly as possible, give a history of my own situation, with the effects produced bv this valuable medicine, i have been, for the last five or six years, laboring under a pulmonary Con sumption, pronouuccd to be such by the at tending physician, during which time I have consulted many physiciaus, taken much med icine, but all to but little purpose. The 12th of March, 10211,1 puked blm*l lor the first time, and continued so to do for sevorul days in succession, ond on the Mth of the same month was confined to my bed, where 1 lay for two months uulil I was reduced to ouch n state of dobility, that my friends began to despair of my recovery. I had made use also of all the popular remedies without benefit, nnd having accidentally heard of this Speci fic,! determined to give it atrial, anticipating fVoin.thc use of it, no better result than had attended the use of all tlio remedies I had ta ken ; but in this I was happily disoppo^ted. At my very lowest elate l commenced the use of this Specific. I took tho first dosoat night in a little herb tea, sweetened, which threw me in a gentle perspiration aud procured for me u good night’s rest.— I continued to take the medicine as directed, and in aboutfivo days my cough was com pletoly Flopped and have not had nny return since. I am now perfectly satisfied of the superior quality of this Specific over every other medicine offered for the cure of tho abovo disease. You aro at liberty to use (his letter in any wav you may think troper.— Yours respectfully, (Signed,) JOHN R. ELLICOTT, Baltimore, Fell. 19/A, 1859. I, Joseph N.
