ceived, coutaiu tho particulars of a most shocking
calamity, which hotel that city, on Tuesday last—

During tiio terrific mid appalling thunder storm
on Tnosany evening, while tho ram was falling iu
torrents and the wind blowing a hurricane, tho
powdor innirnzino in Nashville was struck by
lightning. Tho fire almost instantly reached the
powder, aud tho entire building wus blown to ut-
unis. The report of tho cxplosiou is said to havo
boon equal to thut of tho most tremendous earth
quake.
The loss oriifcaml destruction of property by
this horrible calamity was immense. One hun
dred houses! were either wholly destroyed or mate
rially injured.

from tiio ruins of tho buildings.
TJio dwelling of Mr. Shcayors was literally torn
to pieces. His family were nil much hurt, und
one ot thorn, a young, lady, was killed.
The buildings owned by the following persons

Taylor, Chandler, Banno, Farror, Harris, Moore,
