rpiIE NATIVE . FEBRIFUGE,-
X For tho Cure of Bilious, Remittent and In
termittent, or Ague nnd Fever, aud other discus
es incidental to a debilitated state of the system,
such as night sweats, &c. Ac.
The native Febrifuge is offered. The proprie
tor is aware thnttliu common objections to all new
preparations will bo urged against tliis. To obviate
all such objections, he has simply to state that it is
prepared according to the receipt of nn eminent
physical!, who used it with perfect success
through a long prncftbo, in perhaps tho most sick
ly region of our country, viz: tho Mississippi val
ley. Again from the exalted estimation in which
Quinine is held, not only by tho pcoplu, but by
the most skillful physicians, it will nppeur supere
rogatory to oiler any now article. But the Native
Febrifuge possesses all tho power nnd certainty
of Quinine iu controlling Fever without alluding
tho head, and limy bo safely used therefor, where
Quiniuc is inadmissible. ■ It is nut the purpose of
the proprietor howuvur sanctioned by custom on
such occasions, to attempt a display of medical
knowledge by adopting some one of tho contra
dictory theories afloat, with regard to Uie charac
ter and causes of Fever.
Believing with tho learned Gregory that though
there has been so much written concerning Fever
there is no one subject in tho whole circle of medi
cal'Science which still involves so many disputed
points. Letting nil theories pass, we stand by
facts. The first of which is that tho Native Fe
brifuge will cure fever, from whatovor cause it
mny have originated, nnd if any doubt exists, as to
tho fact we invito the afflicted to tho tost, with
confidence ns to tho issue. What it has duuu it
will do. Tho following certificate of ono well
known will show what iUius done:
Savaxnaii, 12th May, 1817.
Mr. Jas. A. Iai Roche having requested me to
state my knowledge of tho Nativo Febrifuge, 1
take pleasure in stating thut it was used benefici
ally in the Fevers of tho valley of flic Mississippi
nnd Arkansas, in all cases in which Quinine is us
ually exhibited, and was adiuissalile iu conges
tions oftlio brain when Quiiiiue was supposed to
bo contradicated.
J. J. Mitchell, M. D.
Efki.voiiam, Sept. 30,1847.
Dear Sin—In compliance with my promise to
lot you hear from mo, with rcgnrd to tho effect of
your Febrifuge, permit me to hand you tho fol
lowing stutemout of facts. For nearly*3 years my
wife has boon laboring under tlio effects of con
tinually recurring Chills and Fevers, notwith
standing all tho remedies prescribed by our best
Physicians, und at tho time I procured Tho Nu-
tivo Febrifugo, wo had become perfectly despon
dent, fearing that dentil alone would terminate her
disease, hut I mu happy to state that tho use of
one bottle lias broken tho Fever completely nnd
restored her so fur as to require only n little time
to recruit her wasted energies and placo her in
perfect health, such has been the change produc
ed In her habit und constitution by The Nativo

file bust quality.-—The combined effects of heat
and cold, of variability in temperature, and irre
gular action of the system, produce a general tor- ,
per and rigidity of the skin, inducing a state of
disease which deprives that covering of its flexi

those functions for which nature dexigued it. To
remedy this evil, and restore the skin to a health
ful state, has long been a desirable object; aud this
remedy lins been found in tho opurutiou of the
Hair Glove aud Belt Frictor.

Fairbanks Platform Scales.—It is not often that
we aro induced to laud an article of trade, uud
wo never do unless perfectly satisfied that wo uro
commending something Unit is useful. Wo can
not consont to gratify tho cupidity of an indivi
dual, nt tho risk of imposing the confidence of
thousands of our readers who roly upon tho hon
esty of our statements, ifnot in tho nifulibility of
our judineiit. That great improvements Irnvo
been made within a few years, iu the instruments
of weighing merchandise, is n fact familiar to busi
ness men. The autiouo clumsy nnd inaccurate
methods of weighing, have given way to the in
vention of American mechanical skill, and tho ut
most precision Ims been attained. A variety of
Platform Balances aro manufactured nnd used,
which cauiuit bo relied on for any considerable
degree or accuracy: so Uint Uioy nocessarily in
volve ono party in pecuniary loss. It therefore
affords us pleasure to refer to tlio Platform Scales
of Mr. Fnirbnnk, which have boon extensively
used in all pnrts of Uin United States for sovoral
years, and given, as fur ns our knowledgcd ex
tends, very general satisfaction. Wo purchased
one oftheso scales three years since, and (rave us
ed them constantly for weighing paper, See. and
for accuracy and durability, wo aro quite sure,
they have not, and perhaps cannot, ho surpassed.
Tho plan of construction is philosophical and
simple. Tho employment of two lovers, with a
single beam, is certainly tho most practicable, in
a compound platform balance. Any increase of
tlio number of lovors or an additional beam, ren
ders the instrument more complicated, less precise
iu its operation and more liablo to derangement.
The.so scales nro used by many of Uie leading

Mr. Editor: Sir,—My sense of duty to my suf-
faring fellow mortals Ims induced ine to make the
following communication; and 1 nui iu hopes that,
should yon seo proper to give it in whole or in
part, a place ill your valuable papor, it may prove
beneficial to some poor fellow sufferer. In the
winter of1834, and the day after I Imd a hard day’s
work lifting und moving logs, I was taken with a
violent pain in my back ami loins, nnd the day
following with a total suppression or stoppage of
urine. [I was then a citizeuof Jones comity,
Gn.] I immediately called iu a physician ofgreat
oiiiuictice and distinction ; for thirty-six hours I
suffered as much, to all appearance, ns it was
f tossihle for Imninn nature to endure, and nt last
bund relief only hy the help of tho catheter. I
applied then to several eminent physicians both
iu Baldwin aud Jones, without receiving any ben
efit other than a temporary relief, for my com
plaint would every two or three days return, and
the catheter was my only helper. In 18117 I re
moved to tliis county, nnd brought with me my
tormenting complaint nnd my friendly catheter.—
Here, as there, I applied to tho most skillful phy
sicians, us I thought, and here, as there, I receiv
ed no benefit from them. Iu September 1842,
after having suffered at times tho most excrucia
ting pains for eight years aud nine mouths, uud
after having spout a great deni of monoy (nt least
$500) on doctors during the time, I was induced
to try Dr. M. S. Thomson, of Macon, and though
I entertained tlio most violent prejudice to his
mode of practice, my necessity compelled me to
go, for I had then boon confined to my house for
ten days, and had to resort to tho uso of the ca
theter three or four times daily. In this misera
ble plight 1 left home, went to Dr. Thomson,
stated my case to him, and lie gave mu medicine.
Ill half an hour after taking his first dose, I felt that
ease, and had that freo nod copious dischnrgo of
urine which 1^ Imd not felt or had iu almost nine
years. And from that time to tliis present day,
March'20th, 1847, I have Imd no return of my
complaint, and no more uso for my catheter. Iu
order to make the cure pcrmuucut I continued
the uso of the medicine several mouths. Since
then I tako nothing for it. I eat, drink, sleep,
and work as in former days, nnd feel ns well nnd
sound as over I was. You may well suppose tlmt
it did not tako long to banish prejudice nt tlmt
rate, nnd I now sny to the afflicted, that I boliove
in many instances tlmt prejudice stands more in
the way of their recovery than the incurability of
tlioir iliHonsoK. Btioli, Mr. Editor, is my expe

results. Neither ho nor his rumedius need any
