worth culliug. Day before yqstorday about a do

guerrillas out towards Santa Fe. The Mexicans
charged on them, but the Texans very cooly dis
mounted, waited till they came within about thirty
puds, aud poured a volloy of rifles into them, un-
nddling a number. Tho rascals being reinforced
attempted another charge, but were this time met
with Colt's revolvers, the Texans never budging
ail inch! The "hoys" all came in safe.

Dear Sir: I perceive by all'the newspapers,
tliat you are tho General Agont of that very usc-
fttl and highly popular Medicine called Wu tar’s
Balsam ofAvild Cherry. Allow me to inform
you, sir, that I have used that medicino in my
family with decided success. Ijost fkll my wife
was quite sick; had a very bad cough. I consulted
a physician who visited her and prescribed some
medicine, which did not remove her cough. At
Inst ho ordered DR. WISTAR’S BALSAM OF
WILD CHERRY. I immediately procured a
bottle of your agent in this place, Air. Daniel W.
Doty; sho took it, mid it cured hor cough entirely.
During the winter I Imd a fever myself, which
left1110 very weuk and feeble; I Imd a severe cough
which troubled nio sometime. I had rucourso to
your Balsuui again, and found it highly beneficial;
I was obliged, however, to take two bottles be
fore I was entirely well. All who have bad Colds,
severe Coughs, or disoused Lungs, 1 would nd-

CHARLESTON, Nov. 3.—Cotton.-rTho Cot-

in favor of tho purchaser. On Monday, howev
er, au active demand prevailed,-und prices rallied.
Yestcrdnythodemandfeli oil’ materially, and the
market during tho dny was rathar languid than
otherwise; and closed nt about tho rates current
at the oud of the week. The sales in the three
days roach 2850 bales, 1900 of which were sold on
Monday.
Rice.—The Rico market has been rather heavy
sinco our forniar publication, particularly yester
day, when buyors obtained a slight advantage iu
thoir purchases. The transactions compriso
some GOO liorces, at extremes, ranging from 34 to
$4 per hundred.

tlio year previous.
The (meets of the intelligence by the steamer
on this market wore foil iu the instant suspension
of all business operations, tuid during the past
four days only 3 a 409 bnles have bocu sold nt a
decline of about l?c. from the ratos of Inst week.
It is impossible to give a correct quotation of pri
ces. Middlings huvo been disposed of nt 74 a 74
cents, and seemingly hut little disposition exists to
operate to any extent even at tins reduction.—
Tho continued scarcity of shipping tends no
doubt to increase the etnbarrussmeuts of buyers,
and tho dnrangement of exchanges enchaiices
much the difficulties under which every depart
ment of business at present labors.
The weather for pickiug i* favorable in the ex
treme, nnd the quality of the receipts now coining

Rice.—With but a moderate demand nnd in
creasing receipts, the price of rice has gradually
declined to 5 aG ctsper pound.
Freights.---Vessels coutinuo scarce but there is
