plate at that end of the house where the lantern
is to ho put on, iu lieu of a flooring joist is to ho a
timber 7 inches square, the centre of which to bo
7 feet from the centre of the plate.. Two pieces
of the same sizo to he framed in. One end on
this cross beum, the other cud into tho plute.—
The centre of these pieces to he 3 feeto inches
from the centre of tho house, that is, 7 loot apart.
At the eud oftbe House to beau Octagon fram
ed tower. Posts 7 inches square. The foot of
the posts to ho tenoned into the plate, nud the
timber 7 foot from it and tho 2 cross pieces. The
post to rise 3 feet above the ridge pole or apex
oftbe roof.
The diameter oftbe inside oftbe post at top to
lie G feet 8 inches. On tlfo heads of the posts to
ho tenoned u framed octagon deck 10 feet diame
ter ut the corners. Timber 7 by 5 inches, cov
ered with 2 inch plntik yellow Juno, spiked down
Joints caulked uud covered with tarred paper.—
Covings eased. The deck to he covered with 20
oz. copper well nailed with cooper nails. In the
deck to he n scuttle to enter tuc lantern, as large
as the space between tho timbers will admit.—
Scuttle door 2 inch plunk, covered with copper.
Tho roof of the house to ho rectangular. Rafters
4 by 4 inches, 2 feet apart. Sides, ends ami roof
oftbe building and tower above tho roof, to he
bonrded with good seasoned hoards, shingled
with the best cedar or cypress shingles. Ou tho
lower floor at ono end to ho partitioned oil’two
lodging rooms, 9 feet square each. A door to
each near tho centre partition. All the other cud
of tho lower floor, stairs to go into tho attic.—
Windows 12 lights, 8 by 10. Oiift iu each bed
room, 4 iu the parlor, and 2 in the attic. Door to
lead out of the front of the house, and one to lead
out oftbe parlor into tho kitchen. The doors to
he 4 punuel, 1 t ineh thick, except the front door
which is to hu 1} inch. Good lunges uud latches
and lock to the front door. The lower floor to
he laid double. Attic floor siuglo and matched.
Stairs to lead from the attic floor to the eutrauee
of thu scuttle into the deck of the lantern. Tho
parlor and two bed rooms to hu lathed and plas
tered, aud finished iu a plain decent style. Gut
ters hack ami front oftbe house with trunks to
lead oil’the water. Ifu cistern is required, ono is
to he built with brick, with sullicieiit piles under
it to render it sucure.' Sides and bottom 1 foot
thick, laid iu cement, nud plustcrcd inside with the
nine, to hold 800 gallons.
Attached to the house, on which is the tower of
the lantern, to he a kitchen 10 by 14 feet. Files 2G
feet long, 11 inches over ut llieir heads, driven
down four feet apart to the surface of the ground.
Thu heads of thu piles to he sawed oil’ square 4
inches below tho surface—on which is to lie luid
yellow pine plank 3 inches thick, 12 inches square
—oil this to hu luid a hard brick pillar iu cement
12 inches square, 4 feet high. Four piles of thu
same length and size to lie driven down lor the
foundation of the chimney. On tlm brick pillars
sills are to hu laid 7 inches square; to hu one sto
ry, 7 feel 0 inches iu the clear ; roof .j pitch, sides
aud roof well hoarded and shingled. I’osls 7 by
4 inches; lower Hour joist 8 by 2 inches, J8 in
ches apart. Attic floor joist 7 by 2 inches. Low
er lluor laid douhlu—attic floor single and match
ed. Two windows, 12 lights each, 8 by 10. One
door iu front, a chimney iu the end, fireplace of a
convenient size for cooking, with crane, trammel
uud hooks; a sink on onu side oftbe chimney,
accessary shelves, steps to the doer of thu house
and kitchen. At thu buck of the kitchen two piles
10 inches over are to he driven down six feet from
the kitchen, six feet apart. Oil these piles are to
he all oilliouse, attached to the kitchen; posts six
feel high, roof, sides ami cud hoarded uud shin
gled, finor ou a level with thu kitchen; a door from
the kitchen to lead into it. All the exterior of
the house ami kitchen, (except the roofs,) the par
lor and two bedrooms to he painted two coats.
On thi! top of the tower to lie a wrought iron
lantern, form an octagon, of sullicieiit height and
diameter to contain 15 lights, 11 by 9, ami one
copper pane the same size iu each octagon; post
1} inch square, to run down ou tlm inside ot tin*
tower, post 2} fuel, to hu secured with two holts
through the post, nut and screws. Thu dome
formed by sixteen rollers concentrating in an iron
hoop 11 inches diameter, 5} inches wide, } inch

lantern; tlm dome coveted with 32 oz. copper,

with copper, 4 feet high, two feet wide, with two
strong turn buttons; in 4 of the copper panes to
he ventilators to'ailmit air and keep out thu wot;
around the lantern to he an iron railing, posts 11

post to go 2 inches into then deck and run up 4

of tho piles, thu other end to go into tho brick
pillar under thu sill, ou which is to he laid 2 inch
plank, spiked down.

the ahovu work until it shall have been comple
ted, inspected and unproved by thu Collector aud
Superintendent of Lights at Huvaimali, or such
personas lie slmll appoint Ibr tho purpose; the
whole to hu completed in a workmanlike maimer
on or before thu first day of August or sooner if

It is therefore ordered, That the inti!rest de
rived from the Sinn of six thousand dollars, re
ceived for tho old Jail mid lots, mid now vested iii
Public Stocks, he afid is hereby appropriated ami

paid out of tho County treasury, ns shall makeup
the nuioiiut of Jive hundred dollars annually, ho
paid to the Conimissioui'rs of Common Schools,
