while chopping in tlio woods, I foolishly chopped
•my foot nearly o(f, instead of the tree. During
tins niisfortuiio I employed myself in porusingliio
lYngmont leaves o fan old volume, printed In Eng
laud Homo 'hundred yours ago. Among theno
scattered loaves 1 read ofan hqrb which had been
analyzed by some, of England’s nncjpnt Alche
mists; showing properties and qualities never be
fore found In any plant that was over discovered .
This one herb, under tlio force of tho jlotort
and Cruciblo, developed more than ton distinct
properties. This fiict struck my mind so forcibly,
that itivns impossible to got rid ofit. Something
soemod to toll mo that Providence, whose special
care is extended'towards all his creatures, had
never concentrated into one small herb so many
medicinal qualities, as various and us complicated,
although portoedy identical as tho human blood,
without a wlso and good purpose. Hero \va* to
bo found tlio acids, the alkalis, the oils, tlio water,
tho air, tlio salts, thu soda, &c., all combined, con
centrated, and chomically united into ono single
elomeht of power, forming a substnneo more al
lied aud la ufliuity to tho uutnaniilood titan was
ovor boforo discovered iu tho works of nature.
Laboring undor theso impressions for several
years, I bocomo unonsy, discontented, nnd un
willing to coufino myself longer to tlio dutios of a
farmer.
Every tiling scorned to point my mind to ono
object, viz.: the preparation of tliis herb into a
modicino. I then determined to return to the city
of N. York. I did so, mid immediately inquired
for tho herb. It was not to bo found. 1 then
sent to Europe andthore found it under another
unmo.
Having preparod tho articlo to my satisfaction,
I gave it away to all who would use it. Hun-
.druds, I might say thousands, took it into thciy
families and usod it: sonic for one thing und
soiiio for anothor, and all iVom the very first to
tho very Inst, pronounced it of unrivuiod excel
lence mut powor.
The first caso that came under my observation,
was a man that had lost tlio use of his arm for
somo years. Tho Ointment restored his arm
com mutely in a tow days. This surprised mo
much as it did tho patient. After him there cume
a man witii sore eyes producod hy gunpowder—a
very hud case indeed. One box only sutficied to
make a perfect cure. And I would here remark
that hundreds havo been cured of tore eyes,
who never found any relief but iu tliis Oint
ment.
There next came a woman who was su fieri ng
excruciating pain from tlio ague in the face.—
Her physician (thinking it the toothache,) had
extracted eleven of hor teeth. But tho dimculty
still remained as bad us ever. Tho Application
of tho All Healing Ointment was attondod wjtli
immediate cessation of pain. Her fac^however,
began to swell, nnd the surface was covered ovor
with pimples of eruption like prickly bent. In
one day all tliis disappeared. About tho same
time, n lady made application with it for the
headache-ol long standing, nnd a (idling of tho
hair. The Ointment curu(( her headache, uud
restored her hair. Since tins, I have known the
Ointmcut to cure cases of ton, twenty nnd forty
years standing. I hesitate not to gay, that it is
almost nn infallible romody for litis complaint.
About this time there wore two cases, one ol
Consumption, and the other of Scrofula, which
had bafilud tho skill of every physician who pres
cribed. It was woudorful to witness tho effect of
the Ointment on these persons. No one would
believe it unless they h id personally wiliiussed it.
But it did tho work properly. There was no half
way business, for they recovered their health iu a
few months.
Rheumatism, Fever, Quitizy, Sore Throat, Cu
taneous Eruptions, diseases of the Spine, and
Nervous Complaints were treated witii unheard
of success. Butin Chest diseases, such as Asth
ma, pain and oppression, I believe there is no but
ter remedy. Also, tho common disoasos, such as
Ulcer Sdros, Scald Head, Humors of tlio Skin,
Iiillainiiintion, Piles, Sore Eyes, Sprains, Bruises,
and Burns, it seems to bo a perfect nntidoto.—
People would come into tho storo smiling, wish
ing to know if I was reuily the Seventh Son, or
whether tho Ointment that I gave them was indeed
all-healing in its nature. For said they, not ono
single application has failed to cure.
Liver Complaint, particularly, was treated with
groat aud universal success.
lt produced such good results in all cases that it
has buon noised ubroad, and 1 was ofiured sums of
money for a receipt to make it for private use
merely. Every man ppoko well of it, us it had
done so much good.
Not withstanding all, I havo buon curoful not to
recommend it, except incases 1 know it would do
good. 1 was never willing to lend myself to any
thing without first testing its merits. This I en
deavor to do on every occasion, ami when I acted
as one of the Sick Committee in tlio Lodge of 1.
O. of O. F. I thou tested it upon Brothers in tho
most critical conditions, and had abundant opjior
tunity of proving its worth.
And, in conclusion, I would remark that I have
placed litis Ointment before (lie people of tlio U.
States during (lid last nine or twelve months, and
so general hns been the satisfaction, nnd so great
amount of good done, that more than half a mill
ion of lioxos havo ulrutidy been sold. 1 do really
believe thoro never was a medicine which gained
such widespread, universal nnd unanimous satis
faction us tho All-Hculiiig Ointment. From ull
parts of the land there have come up one deep,
sincere uud universal voice of approbation saying
"McAlister thy Longue hath dropped tho word of
truth nnd love, while health forever attends thy
foot stops.” And wore 1 now to give all the good
sayings of tho people, tlicir unqualified approval,

The plan of construction is philosophical and

Mr. Editor: Sir,—-My souse of duty to my suf
fering fellow mortals has induced mo to make the
following communication; and Iaiu iu hopes that,
should you see proper to give it in whole or in
part, a place in your vuluahTe paper, it may prove
beneficial to some poor fellow sullbrcr. In tlio
winter of 1831, and the day after l had a laird day’s
work lifting and moving logs, I was taken witii a
violent pain in my back and loins, and tho day
foUowiiig with a total suppression or stoppage of
tiriue. [4 was then a citizen of Jones county,
Gu. j 1 immediately called in a physician ofgruul
oimnonco and distinction ; for thirty-six hours I
Butibrud as much, to all npjiuomiicc, n*» it was
possible for human uuturo to endure, and at last
found relief only hy the help of thu catheter. 1
applied then to several eminent physicians both
in Baldwin and Jones, without receiving any bon-
efit other than if temporary relief, for my com
plaint would ovory two or three days return, and
tho catheter was my only heijicr. In 1837 I re
moved to this county, and brought will) mo my
tormenting complaint and my friendly catheter.—
Here, os there, 1 applied In the most skillful phy
sicians, as I thought, and hero, ns there. I receiv
ed no benefit from them. In September 1312,
after having suffered at limes the most excrucia
ting pains lor eight years and nine months, and
after having spent a groat deal of money (at least
§500) on doctors during (lie time, l was induced
to try Dr. M. 8. Thomsen, of Macon, and (hough
f entertained the most violent prejudice to his
mode of practice, my necessity compelled mu to
go, for I lmd then been confined to my house for
ton days, aud had to resort (o tlio use oflliu ca
theter three or four times daily. In this misera
ble plight I loft home, went to Dr. Thomson,
stated my caso to him, nnd he gave mu medicine.
Iu liull'an hour after taking his first dose, I felt dial
ease, and had that free and copious discharge of
urine which 1 had not felt or lmd iu almost nine
yours. And from thnt timo to this present day,
March 2()tii, 1847, I have had no return of my
compluint, nnd no more use for my catheter, in
order to make the euro puruianout 1 continued
tlio use of tlio modicino several months. Since
then I take nothing for it. 1 out, drink, sleoji.
uud wurk us iu furmor days, and f'uol us well ami

it did not take long to banish prejudice nl that
ruto.nnil I now say to the afflicted, that I believe
in many instances thnt prejudice stands more in
