Tlio native Febrifuge is ofibred. The projirie-

preparations will lie urged against this. To obviate
alt such objections, he has simply to state that it is
prepared according to the receipt of uii eminent
physical), who used it with perfect success
through a long practice, iu perhaps the most sick
ly region of our country, viz: die Mississippi val
ley. Again from tlio exalted estimation iu which
(liiinino is licit!, not only hy the people, but by
the most skillful physicians, it will appear so pera-
rogatory to oiler any new article. But the Native
Febrifuge possesses ull the power and certainty
of Quinine iu controlling Fever without affecting
the head, uud may be safely used therefor, where
Quinine is inadmissible. ‘It is not the purposo of
the proprietor however sanctioned hy custom on
such occasions, to attempt a display of medical
knowledge by adopting some ono of tlio contra
dictory theories afloat, with regard to the charac
ter ami causes of Fever.
Believing with the learned Gregory that though
there Ims been so much written concerning Fever
there is no one subject iu the whole circle of medi
cal'science which still involves so many disputed
points. Letting all theories pass, we stand by
facts. The first of which is tlmt the Native Fe

may have originated, uml if any doubt ovist*, as to
the fact we invite the afflicted to the test, with
cuufidcnco us to the issue. What it hns done it

Mr. Jus. A. Lu Roche having requested mo In

ally in the Fevers of the valley of the Mississippi

Dear Sir:—In compliance with my promise to

ing comments upon this useful uud convenient
article:
I'airhanil's Platform Scales.—It is uot often that
wo are induced to laud an article of trade, and
we never do unless perfectly satisfied tlmt we are
commending something that is useful. YY ; o can
not consent to gratify the cupidity of an indivi
dual, at tlio risk of imposing the confidence of
thousands of our renders who rely upon tho hon
esty of our statements, If not iu the mfnlibiHty of
our judiueiit. Tlmt great improvements have
been nmdo within a few yoiirs, in the instrument*
of weighing merchfiiidise, is a fact familiar to lutsi-
licssiuen. The antique clumsy and inaccurate
method* of weighing, have given way to the
volition of American mechanical skill, and the ut
most precision hits been attained. A variety of
Platform Balance* are manufactured and used
winch cannot be relied on for any coiwidemldo
degree of accuracy: so tlmt they necessarily in
volve one party iu pecuniary Jos*. It therefore
'“lords u* pleasure to refer to the Platform Seales
of Mr. Kairbaiik, which have been extensively
used in nil purls of tho United States for several
year*, and given, a* fiir a* our knowledgcd ex
tends, very general satisfaction. YVo purchased
ono of these scale* three years since, aud have us
ed them constantly for weighing paper, &c. and
for accuracy and durability, wo are quite sure
they Imve not, mid perhaps cannot, be surpassed!
Tho plan of construction is philosophical and
simple. Thu employment of two levers, with a
single bentn, is certainly tho most practicable, iu
u compouud platform' balance. Any increase of
the number of levers or an additional beam, rou-
ilors the instrument more complicated, luss precise
in it* operation and inoro liablo to derangement.
These scales are used' by many of tho loading
merchant* of Now York, whose written testimony
to their superihr excellence bus beep freely uc-
cordcd to the ‘manufacturers. june 9

1817,.1 wur Lviugm thowdstem part of Uiis Statu
pursuing Urn occupation of n fiurmon One day
while chopping m tlio woods, I foolishly chopped
my foot nearly off, instead of tho tree. During
Uus misfortune I omployod myself in peruslnstlw
fragment leaves of au old volume, printed it) Eng
land some hundred years ago. Among these
scqtterod loaves I read ofnn herb which had beoiii
analyzed by some of England’s ancient Alclio-
jniste, showing properties and qualities never bc-
fbro feund in uuy plaut tlmt was ever discovered.
Ibis ono herb, umler the force of the Retort
and Crucible, developed Umriytliuu leu distinct
properties. 1 his fact struck uiy mind so forcibly,
that it was imuossible to get rid Of it. SomeUiini!
seemed to tell mo tlmt Providence, whose spccitfl
earn is extended towards all his crouture*, had
novqr concentrated into one small herb so many
medicinal qualities, ns various and as complicated,
although perfectly identical us tho human blood,
without a wise and good purposo. Hero was to
bo found tbit acids, tho alkalis, tho oils, the water,
tho air, the salt*, tho soda, &c., all combined, con
centrated, and chemically united into one single
element of power, forming a substance more al
lied and in affinity to the human blood tluw wus
ever before discovered iu the works of nature.
Laboring under theso impressions for several
years, I became uneasy, discontented, nml un
willing to confine inysulf longer to the duties of a
farmer.
Every thing scorned to point my mind to ono
object, viz.: the preparation of this herb into u
medicine. I then determined to return to the city
of N. York. I diil so, and immediately inquired
for the herb. Itbva* not to bo found. I then
sent to Europe and there found it uuder another
name.
Having prepared the article to my satisfaction,
I gave it away to all who would use it. Hun
dreds, I might say thousands, took it into their
families ami used it: some for one thing and
some for another, and all from the very first to
the very last, pronounced it of unrivaled excel
lence and power.
The first case that came under my observation,
wa* a man th.it had lost the iiso of his arm for
some years. The Ointment restored his arm
completely iu a few days. This surprised me as
much as it did tho patient. After him there came
a limn with sore eyes produced by gnupowder—a
very bad case indeed. One box only sulfided to
matte a perfect cure. And I would hero remark
that hundreds have been cured of sore eyes,
who never found any relief but in this Oint
ment.
There iiexteiune n woman who was siifl'eriim
excruciating pain from thu ague in the face.—
Her physician (thinking it the toothache.) had
extracted eleven of her teeth. But the diliiculty
still remained a* bad as ever. The Application
of the All Healing Ointment was attended with
immediate cessation of pain. Her face however,
began to swell, uml the surface wa* covered over
with pimple* of eruption like prickly beat. Iu
one day all tins disappeared. About the same
time, a lady made ajinlimtion with it for the
headache of long standing, and a falling of the
hair. The Ointment cured her headache, ami
restored her Imir. Since llii*, l have known the
Ointment to euro cases often, twenty and forty
years standing. I hesitate not to sav, that it is
almost an infallible remedy for this complaint.
, About this time there were two eases, one of
Consumption, and the other of 8erolula, which
had baffled tho skill of every physician who pres
cribed. it was wonderful to witness the effort of
the Ointment on theso persons. No ono would
believe it unless llioy had personally witnessed it.
But it did the work properly. There was no half
way business, for they recovered their health inn
few months.
Rheumatism, Fever, Quinzy, Soro Throat, Cu
taneous Eruptions, disease* of the Spine, and
Nervous Complaint* were treated with unheard
of success. Butin Chest diseases, such us Asth
ma, pain nud oimression, I believe there is no bet
ter remedy. Also, the common diseases, such as
Ulcer Sore*. Scald Hoad, Humor* of the Skin,
liilluintnatioii', Piles, Sore Eyes, Sprains, Bruises,
and Burns, it seems to be a perfect antidole.
People would uomo into tlie store smiling, wish
ing to know if l was really the Seventh Son, or
whether tho Ointment tlmt l gave them was indeed
idl-heiiliiig in its nature. For said they, not one
single application has failed to cure.
Liver Complaint, particularly, was treated with
great aud universal success.
It produced such good result* in all case* that it
lias been noised abroad, qml 1 was offered sums of
money for a receipt to make it for private use
merely. # Every man sjmko well of it, as it bad
duueso much good.
Not withstanding nil, I have been careful not to
recommend it, except incases l knew it would do
good. I was never willing Jo lend myself to any
thing without first testing it* merit*. This I en-
deavor to do on every occasion, and when 1 acted
as one of the Hick Committee iu the Lodge of I.
O. of O. F. 1 then tested it upon Brother* in the
most critical condition*, and Imd abundant oppur
(unity of proving its worth.
Aud. in conclusion, I would remark that I have
placed this Ointmeiit before tlie people of the U.
8tales during tlie last nine or twelve mouths, and
*o general has been thu satisfaction, and so great
amount of good done, tlmt more than Imlf a mill
ion of boxes have already been wild. I do really
believe there never wasii medicine which gained
such widespread, universal mid unanimous satis
faction as ihc All-Healing Ointment. From all
parts of tlie land there Imve come up one deop,
siucere aud universal voice of approbation saying
“McAlister (by tongue Imtlt dropped the word of
truth and love, while health forever attends thy
footsteps.” And were I now to given!! the good
sayings of the people, their unqualified approval,
their tliimkfiiliiess and gratitude, their joy at recov
cring from disease and sickness, I could fill a

Gw. j I immediately called in u physician ofgrent
eminence and distinction ; for thirty-six hours I
suffered as much, to all appearance, as it was
possible for human nature to endure, uud at last
found relief only by the help of tlie catheter. I
applied then to several eminent physicians both
in Baldwin and Jones, without receiving any ben
efit oilier Ilian a temporary relief, for mv com
plaint would every two or* three days return, and
tho catheter was my only helper. *ln 13371 re

tormenting complaint and my friendly catheter.—
Here, as there, l applied to iho Hunt skillful phy
sician*, us 1 thought, aud here, as there, I receiv
ed no benefit from them, lu September 1842,
after having suffered at times the most excrucia
ting pains for eight years and nine mouth*, and
after having spent a great deal of money (at least
$509) ou doctor* during the lime, I was induced
to try Dr. M. 8. Thomson, of Macon, nud though
l entertained'the most v’mteut prejudice to bis
mode of practice, my necessity compelled me to
go, fori had then been confined to my house for
ten days, and had to resort to the use of tlie ca
theter three or four times daily, lu this misera
ble plight I left home, went to Dr. Thomson,
stated my case to him, and lie gave me medicine.
In half an hour after taking his first dose, l feltthat
ease, and laid that free and copious discharge of
uriiio which l'had not felt or Imd iu almost nine
years. Aud from that timo to this prescut day,
March '20jb, J847, I havo had no return of my

tlm use of the medicine several lium'h*. Since
then I take uolliing for it. I eat, drink, sleep,

it did not tako long to Imuisli prejudice at that
