T he native febrifuge,—
For tho Cure of Bilious, Remittent and In
termittent, or Ague aud Fever, aud other disens-
cs incidental to a debilitated state of the system,
such as night sweats, &c. &c.
Tlm native Febrifuge is offered. The proprie
tor is aware timtthe common objections to all now
preparations will be urged against this. To obviate
all such objections, lie has simply to state that it is
prepared according to the receipt of an eminent
physical!, who used it with perfect success
through u long practice, iu perhaps thu most sick
ly region of our country, viz: the Mississippi val
ley. Again from thu exalted estimation iu which
Quinine is held, not only by the people, but by
the most skillful physicians, it will appear supere
rogatory to offer any new article. But the Native
Febrifuge possesses all the power aud certainty
of Quinine in controlling Fever without affecting
thu huud, aud may ho safely used therefor, where
Quinino is inadmissible. It is not the purpose of
tlm proprietor however sanctioned by custom on
such occasions, to attempt a display of medical
knowledge by adopting some one of the contra
dictory theories afloat, with regard to tho charac
ter aud causes of Fever.
Believing with the learned Gregory tiint though
there has been so much written concerning Fever
there is no otto subject in the whole circle of medi
calscience which still involves so many disputed
jioints. Letting all theories pass, wo stand by
facts. Tho first of which is that tho Native Fe-
hriftige will cure fever, from whatever cause it
may have originated, and if any doubt exists, as to
tho fact we invite the nfilictcd to tlm test, with
confidence ns to the issue. What it has done it
will do. Tlm following certificate of one well
known will show what it has done:
Savannah, 12th May, 1847,
Mr. Jas. A. La Roche having requested me to
state my knowledge of tlm Native Febrifuge, I
take pleasure in stating that it was used benefici
ally in tlm Fevers ofthe valley of tho Mississippi
uud Arkansas, in all cases iu which Quinine is us
ually exhibited, and was ndmissahlu in conges
tions oftlm brain when Quinine wus supposed to
he contradicuted.
J. J. Mitchell, M. D.
Ekkixoiiam, Sept. 30,1847.
Dear Sin—In compliance with my promise to
let you hear front me, with regard to the effect of
vour Febrifuge, permit me to hand you the fol
lowing statement of facts. For nearly’3 years my
wife has been laboring under the effects of con
tinually recurring Chills nnd Fevers, notwith
standing all tho remedies prescribed by our best
Physicians, aud at the tiimf I procured" The Na
tive Febrifuge, wo had become perfectly despon
dent, fearing that death alone would terminate her
disease, Imt I am happy to state that the use of
one bottle has broken tlm Fever completely and
restored her so far ns to require only n little time
to recruit her wasted energies nnd "place Iter iu
perfect health, such lies been tlm change produc
ed iu lmr habit aud constitution by The Native

Hunt’s Merchant’s Magazine makes the follow
ing comments upon this nsefttl and convenient
article:
Fairbanks Platform Scales.—It is not often that
we are induced to laud nil article of trade, and
we never do unless perfectly satisfied that we are
commending something that is useful. We entt-
not consent to gratify the cupidity of an Indivi-
ditnl, at the risk of imposing the confidence of
thousands of our readers who roly upon the hon
esty of our statements, if not in the inlhlihility of
our judment. That great improvements have
been made within a few years, in the instruments
of weighing merchandise, is a fact familiar to busi
ness men. The nntiquo clumsy and inaccurate
methods of weighing, have given way to tho in
vention of American mechanical skill, and the ut
most precision hns been attained; A variety of
Platform Balances tiro nmnufiietured and used,
which cannot bn relied on for any considerable
degree of accuracy: so that they necessarily in
volve one party iu pecuniary toss. It therefore
cfiords us pleasure to refer to tho Platform Seales
ofMr. Fairlmnk, which have been extensively
used in all parts of the United States for several
years, and given, as fur as our knowledged ex
tends, very general satisfaction. We purchased
one of these scales three years since, and have us
ed them constantly for weighing paper. &c. and
for accuracy and durability, wo are quite sure,
they have not, and perhaps cannot, be surpassed.
The plan of construction is philosophical and
simple. The employment of two levers, with n
single beam, is certainly the most practicable, in
a compound platform balance. Any increase of
the number of levers or an additional beaut, ren
ders the instrument more complicated, less precise
iu its operation and more liable to derangenieut.
These scales are used by many of the lending
merchants of New York, whose written testimony
to their superior excellence has been freely ac
corded to the manufacturers. juno 9

the best qualify*.—The combined effects of heat
aud cold, of variability in temperature, and irre
gular action of the system, produce a general tor
por and rigidity of thu skin, inducing a state of
disease which deprives that covering of its llexi-
liility, and renders its incapable of performing
those functions for which nature designed it. To
remedy this evil, nnd restore the skin to a health
ful state, has long been a desirable object; and this
remedy hns been found in tho operation ofthe
Hair Clove and Belt Frictor.
The movement of all parts of the body whilst
undergoing the process of friction, produces n
general activity and circulation ofthe blood, and
at the same time removes ull encrustations from
thu skin, and clears and opens thu pores effectual

Tho regular use ofthe Hair Frictors night and

ful excitement ofthe skin, nnd will he found both

1817,1 was hvnigm the western part of this State
pursuing tlm occupation of a fnrinbr; Ono da^
while chopping iu tho woods, 1 foolishly chopped
uly. foot nearly off, instead of the true. During
this misfortune I employed myself in perusing the
fragment leaves ofan old volume, printud in Eng
land sotno hundred years ugo. Among these
scattered leaves I read ofan herb which had betyt
analyzed by some of England’s ancicut Alche
mists, shewing properties nnd qualities never be
fore found iu uuy plant that was ever discovered-.
This one herb, under the force of tho Retort
and Crucible, developed moro than ten distinct
properties. This fact struck my tuitid so forcibly,
that it was impossible to get rid of it. Sotnotitinr
seemed to tell mo tiiat Providence, whoso speciiL
caro is extended towards all his creatures, had
never concentrated into one siunll llorb so niuny
medicinal qualities, us various ami as complicated,
although perfectly identical us thu human blood,
without a wiso uud good purpose, llero was to
ho found the acids, tho alkalis, tho oils, the water,
the air, tho salts, the soda, &c., all combined, con-
eoutrtrted, nnd chemically united into one single
element of power, forming a substance more al
lied and iu idfiuity to the human blood than was
ever before discovered iu tho works of nature.
‘.altering ttttdor these impressions for several
years, I became uneasy, discontented, and un
willing to confine myself longer to the duties of a
farmer.
Every tiling seemed to point my mind to ono
object, viz.: tho preparation of this litfrb into a
medicine. I thou determined to return to the city
of N. York. 1 did so, and immediately inquired
for the herb. It was not to be folim’l. 1 then
sunt to Europe and titero found it under uuuthor
name.
Having prepared the articlo lo my satisfaction,
I gnvo it away to all who would liso it. Hun
dreds, I might say thousands, took it into their
families aud used it: some for one- thing and
some for another, and all front thu very first to
the very last, pronoitur.ed it of ttnrivuled excel
lence and power.
Tho first case that came under my observation,
was a mutt tiint had lost tho uso of his arm for
some years. The Ointment restored his arm
completely iu a few days. This surprised me as
much as it did tho patient. After him there came
a man with sore eves produced by gunpowder—a
verv bod cose indeed. Ono box only sullicied to
make a perfect euro. Aud I would hero remark
that hundreds have been cured of sore eyes,
who never found uuy relief hut iu this Oint
ment.
There next canto a woman who was suffering
excruciating' pain from the acne in tho face.—
Her physician (thinking it the toothache.) hud
extracted eleven of her teeth. But tho ditficulty
still remained as had as ever. The Application
of the All Healing Ointment was attended with
immediate cessation of pain. Her faco however,
began to swell, nnd the surface was covered over
with pimples of eruption like prickly heat. In
one day all this disappeared. About the same
time, a lady made application with it for the
headache of long standing, and a filling of the
hair. The Ointment cured her headache, and
restored her hair. Since this, l have kumvu the
Ointment to cure cases often, twenty and forty
years standing. 1 hesitate not to say, that it is
almost an infallible remedy for this compluint.
About this time there were two eases, one o(
Consumption, and the other of Scrofula, which
had halllcd the skill of every physician who pres
cribed. It was wonderful to witness tho effect of
the Ointment on these persons. No one would
believe it unless they had personally witnessed it.
But it did the work properly. There was no half
way business, for they recovered their health in u
few mouths.
Rheumatism, Fever, Quiu/.y, Sore Throat, Cu
taneous Eruptions, diseases of the Spiuc, aud
Nervous Compluints were treated with unheard
of success. Butin Chest diseases, such as Asth
ma, pain and oppression, I believe there is no hot
ter remedy. Also, the common diseases, such as
Ulcer Sores. Scald Head, Humors ofthe Skin,
Iiillauiumiion, Files, Sore Eyes, Sprains, Bruises,
and Burns, it seems to he u perfect .antidote.—
People would come into thu store smiling, wish
ing to know if I was really the Seventh Son, or
whether tho Ointment that I gave them was indeed
all-heating in its nature. For said they, not one
single application lias failed to cure.
Liver Complaint, particularly, was treated with
great aud universal success.
lt produced such good results in all cases that it
has been noised abroad, aud I was offered sums of
money for a receipt to make it for private uso
merely. Every malt spoke well of it, as it had
done so much good.
Not withstanding all, I Itavo been careful not to
recommend it, except in cuses I know it would do
good. I was never willin'' to lend myself to any
tiling without first testing its merits. This 1 en
deavor to do on every occasion, and when I acted
as one of tho Sick Committee iu the Lndgo of I.
O. of O. F. I then tested it upon Brothers in the
most critical conditions, and had ubundunt oppor
Utility-of proving its worth.
And, in conclusion, I would remark that I have
placed this Ointment before the people of tho U.
States during tho last nine or twelve mouths, and various
so general lias been the satisfaction, nnd so great
amount of good done, that more than half a mill
ion of boxes have already been sold. 1 do really
believe there never was a medicine which gained
such wide spread, universal and unanimous satis
faction as tlie All-Healing Ointment. From all
parts of the laud there have come up one deep,
sincere nnd universal voice of approbation saying
“McAlister thy tongue hath dropped the word of
truth and love, while health forever attends thy
footsteps.” And were 1 now to give all the good
sayings of the people, their unqualified approval,
their thankfulness and gratitude, their joy utrceov
oriug from disease and sickness, I could till a

In proseuthig such a body of evidence iit the
form of certificates, it may not ho improper to re
mark, in regard to their credibility, tiiat they are
given many of them, by some of our best citi
zens, whose characters are well and generally

deception or forgery, utterly out of tho question,
for how could it ho for ono moment iumiagiued

pecially as they tend to subvert the interests of

These considerations will ut once indicate tlm

from nobody knows where, und circulated far
from their reputed source, for every body knows

From the Atlanta (Geo.) T.nminary.
Mr. Editor: Sir,—My sense ofduty to my suf
fering fellow mortals has induced me to make the
following communication; and I uni in hopes that,
should you see proper to givo it in whole or in
part, n place in your valuable paper, it may prove
beneficial to some poor fellow sufferer. In the
winter of 1831, and the dnv after I had uhardduy’s
work lifting and moving logs, I was taken with a
violent pain iti my back and loins, and the day
following with a total suppression, or stoppage of
uriuu. (.I was then n citizen of Jones county,
Gn.] I immediately called in u physician ofgroat
eminence and distinction ; for thirty-six hours I
suffered as much, to all appearance, as it was
possible for human nature to endure, aud at last
found relief only by the help of the catheter. I
applied then to several eminent physicians both
in Baldwin and Jones, without receiving any ben
efit other than a temporary relief, for my com
plaint would every two or three days return, and
the catheter was my only helper. In 1837 I re
moved to this county, nnd brought with me my
tormenting complaint and my friendly catheter.—
Here, as there, I applied to the most skillful phy
sicians, as 1 thought, and here, as there, I receiv
ed no benefit from tlicm. In September 1842,
after having suffered at times the most excrucia
ting pains for eight years nnd nine months, and
after havin'' spent a great deal of money (at least
$500) ou doctors during the time. I was induced
to try Dr.M. S. Thomson, of Macon, and though
1 entertained tho most violent prejudice to his
mode of practice, my necessity compelled mu to
go, for I had then been confined to my house for
ten days, and had to resort to the use ofthe ca
theter three or lour times daily. Iu this misera
ble plight 1 left home, went to Dr. Thomson,
stated my case to him, aud he gave me medicine.
In half an hour after taking his first dose, I felt that
ease, and had that free and copious discharge of
urine which 1 had not felt or had iu almost nine
years. Aud from that time to this present day.
March 20th, 1847, 1 have had no return ofniy
complaint, nnd no more uso for my catheter. lit
order to make the cure permanent I continued
tlie use of the medicine several months. Since
thuu I take nothing for it. 1 eat. drink, sleep,
aud work as in former days, aud feel as well and
sound as ever I was. Yoil may well suppose that
il did not lake long to banish prejudice at that
rate, uud l now wiy to the utllicted, that l believe
iu many instances that prejudice stands more in
the way of their recovery tlmtt the incurability of
their diseases. Such, Mr. Editor, is my expe
rience of Dr. Thomson’s treatment, and such tlie
results. Neither he nor his remedies need any
encomium from me : the skill ofthe one and the
ellicacy nl tho other are too well known for that;
Imt a fellow feeling for tho sufferers induced me
lo take up thu pen, aud to them is dedicated the
imperfect couiuiiiuieatiou of
Yours, respectfully.
