PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 17.—Cotton.—'Tho
very reduced stock, together with an increased
demand from spinners, caused some little stir in
the market in the early part of the week, and pri
res have since stiffened in consequence? about
750 bales changed hands nt prices within the
range of 7:| a 0-1 cts. for Uplands, New Orleans
and Mobile, including a lot uf inferior and stain
ed Cotton; in several instances an advance of
4c. was obtained over previous inking rates,
leaving the market nt the close very bare and
holders generally asking higher prices.. Wo give

ket closing unsettled and some holders are wil-
mg to accept $0 H7-A, while others continue for
higher rates. Sales for home use ure also limited
