which assails him, ondwhero tho evil is notposi*

cios to destroy it. One of thn laws of nature is,

that ovory where prevails, in this limited material
sphere, of tho gradual tilling up of the spuco into
which it Hows. To give it new power, and ac
celerate its motion, it is uecossury to make fresh
avenues in opposite directions; when, with pro
per intelligence as our guide, much may ho done
to restore to it its normal vigor.

terum of the Circuit Court of tho United States
in tho district of Mnkio.
Bo it unacted by tho 8cnato and House of
Representatives of the United Suites of America
in Congress assembled, That tho terms of the
circuit court of the United States for the district
of Maine shall hereafter be hold as follows, to
wit i 6u tho twcuty-third day of April, and on tho
twouty-third day of September, iu each year,
instead of tho timo now by law appointed: and
all actions, suits, appeal.*,' recognizances, writ*,
processes, aud other proceeding* whatever, pond
ing iu said court or returnable thereto, shall have
day, nud ho honrd, tried, procecdnd with, and
decided accordingly: Provided, however, That
when cither of too said days shall happen on
Holiday, then tho session of said court shall com
mence on tho next day.

Messrs. Editors—l beg leave, through your
columns, to call the attention of tho public to the
Lecture of Professor Young this oveuing, nt tho
Chatham Academy. There i> reason to believe,
from tho thinness of tho attendance last evening,
that the character of the entertainment was not
generally understood. That wondrous iuvtru-
ment, the Magic Linthcru, was worked with great
precision and skill, in the exhibition of character,
the illustration of the passion*, and the represen
tation of reuinvited historical personages. It i*
peculiarly adapted to afibrd instruction a* well a*
amusement to youth; nud with the comments
of a practical and philosophic mind, like Proles-
TON, A. T. Percy nu star, having part of j Ror Young’s, it deserves to be classed among the
most iutolloclual of instruments. That this is the
opinion of the small but very respectable audi
ence, who attended last evening. I hazard nothing

Death of an Eccentric Character.—William G.
Bay lies, aged 03, died at Boston on Wednesday,
