dates possess over all other metallic substances
itherto used for roofing, Ac..as they possess at
once the lightness of iron, without its liability to
rust, having now been tested for several years m
this particular, both in this country and in Eu

contraction from sudden change of the atmos

To tho inhabitants of 8avaunah.
In conformity witha Resolution recently pass
ed by the Board of Health, I would call your re
membrance to tue good state of Health enjoyed
by our Fellow-Citizens for years past, and to
urge Jipon you the necessity, if you desire a con
tinuance of that blessing, during the approaching
season, to keen undor those local causes by u
prompt removal of all animal and vegetable de
composition, beyond the corporal limits of Sa
vannah. Cleanliness is an indispensible ingre
dient of health. It ought to bo observed by all,
otherwise you invite disease, and the consequen
ces that necessarily follow in its train. We, your
Board of Health, earnestly entreat you to white
wash your Fences, Cellars, Outdiouses; and*
freely use the (Sulphate Ferri) Copperas in pro
portion of two pounds to three gallons of water,
in yoar sinks aud other places emiting unpleas
ant effluvia. For the better advancement oi
health, we would suggest that each citizen adopt
a feeling that he also is a member of this Board,
by giving his attention to the cleanliness of his
premises, and those around him.
The Board of Health expects their Fellow-
Citizens will afford them aid in their weekly vis
its, to enable them to effect strict examinations
and faithful reports.
Your Board of Health requests that yon make
known through the medium of its Chairman,
Ward-Committees, City Marshal, or by letter
through the Post Office, of any nnisance or de
posit that may be calculated to produce disease.
The duty assigned to us is an arduous oue. If
we meet with a cordial and approving support,
then shal) wo feel that our labors have not been
without effect.

LODIAN—a now and elegant substitute
for Fluster cloths, Sutures, Bandages, &c.—This
article has been found by all surgeons who have
tested it, far superior and more convenient tliun
former means of dressing incised wounds. For
burnB, sore Nipples, and eruptive diseases, it
has proved extremely efficacious. It is nlso
much preferable to court plnster and gold beater's
skin. It is not acted upon by wuter, and adheres
with almost incredible tenacity to the skin, keep
ing tho edges of the wound closely together, and
causing it to heal with hardly a perceptible scur.
A history of the article, together with commu

ALEXIS V. PAULITAN, ofthe Paris Lying-in
Hospital, member of the Medical Academy of
France, Corresponding Secretary of the Paris
Pharmaceutical College, respectfully begs leave
to announce to the Ludics of America, that he
has appointed Dr. Jerome Y. C. Ropeniiurty,
of New York, his sole American Agent, for the
sale of his wonderful medicine, known in France
as The Wife’s Friend, or Mother’s Assistant the
most extraordinary medical discovery the world
has ever seen. Its province i9 to Lesscu the
Puins of Child-Birth, and promote a,safe, easy,
and speedy delivery, which it does by assisting
nuture. It is perfectly harmless, efficacious,
pleasant to tho taste, and never fails to promote
an easyand safe delivery, and improves the gen
eral health ofboth mother nnd child. It has been
tested for years in all the principal Lying-In Hos
pitals of Europe, and receives tho sanction of
neurlyall thelprominent Colleges aud Medical
men ofthe old world. It is thegreatestmodicine
in the world ; as all will udmit that a medicine
must be that will lessen the terrible pains usually
nttondautou childbirth. There is no mistake u-
bout this medicine doing all that is said of it.
It never fails. It is iu the form of a fine, light
powder, to be made into a drink, nnd used for n
few weeks previous to the expected event, aud
its price is so low as to bring it within the reach
of all. Surely no humane husband will suffer
his wife to endure pain, when it can be so easily
and cheaply avoided. For the small sum of only
