proved lu worth, nnd known Its value. It had reached
the ear* of nmny, nevertheless, ns thoso persons who had
been healed of sore diseases, nud saved , from death, pro
claimed its excellence nnd wonderful
HEALING. POWER.
Knowing, many years ago, that he hnd, by his skill,
science nnd experience, duused an nrtlcle which would be
of incalculable advantage to mankind, when the menus
would lie furnished to tiring It into universal notice, when
Its inestimable virtues would be known and appreciated.
This time has cotno, the means arc supplied; this
ORAJYD AM) UNEQUALLED PREPARATION
is mnnufnctured on tho largest scale, and is called for
throughout tho length ami breadth of the land, especially
as it Is found incapable of degeneration or deterioration.
Unlike young 3. I*. Townsend's, It improves with age, and
never changes, but for the belter: because it is prepared oa
icientific principles by u scientific man. The highest knowl
edge of Chemistry, and the latest discoveries of the art,
have nil been brought Into requisition in the manufacture
of the Old Dr’s Sarsaparilla. Tho Sarsaparilla rtmt, it Is
well known to medical men, contains many medicinal pro
perties, and some properties which are Inert or useless, nnd
others, which If retained In preparing It fur use, produce
fermentation nnd ucid, which is Injurious to the system.
Some of the properties of Sarsaparilla are so volatile, that
(hey ontiruly evaporate and are lost in the preparation, if
they nre not preserved by a scientific process, known only
to those experienced in It* mnnitfactn/e. Moreover, these
tsolatils principles, which liy otf in vapor, or as an exhala
tion. tinder heat, nro the very essential mcdicU properties
of the root, which el v a to it nil 't, vnlne..
Any peraon can boll or stew the root till they get a dam
colored liquid, which Is more from the coloring matter tu
the root thnn from any thing else; they can then strata
this Insipid or vapid liquid, sweeten with sour inolasse.
and then call It “SARSAPARILLA EXTRACT or pY
RtJIV' But such Is not the nrtlcle known as the
GENUINE OLD DR. JACOB TOWNSEND’S
SARSAPARILLA.
This Is so prepared, that nil the inert properties of the
BHrtnpnrilla root nro lirst removed, every thing capable of
becoming add or of fennontation, is extruded nnd rejected;
then every particle of medical virtue is secured In a pure
and concentrated form; and thus it Is rendered incapable of
losing nny of its valuable and healing properties Prepared
In this way, it is mude the most powerful ngent In the
Cure of innumerable diseases.
Hence the reason why we hear commendations on every
side In Its fivur by men, women, und children. We find It

LODIAN—a new and elegant substitute
for Plaster cloths. Sutures, Baudnges, &c.—This
article has been found by uli surgeons who have
tested it, far superior am! more convenient than
former means of dressing incised wonnes. For
burns, soro Nipples, and eruptive diseases, it
has proved extremely cfiicacioufl. It is also
much preforable to court plaster and gold henter’s
skin. It is not acted upon by water, undndheres
with nlrnost incredible tenneity to the skin, keep
ing tlie edges of the wound closely together, nud
causing it to heal with hardly a perceptible scar.
A history ofthe article, together with commu

Dr. J. Mason Warren of Boston, Erasmus Wil

SOURING. FERMENTING, ACID “ COM
POUND” OF S. P. TOWNSEND,
tnd yet he wnuht fain have Itumlrrslnod that Old Dr. JsenX
Townsend's Genuine Original Sarsaparilla, Is an IMITA
TION of his Inferior preparation!!
Heaven forbid that wo should deal in an article which
would bear the most distant resemblance to 8. P. Town-
(end’s articleI and which should bring down upon the Old
Dr. such a mountain load of complaint* nnd crimination*
from Agents who have told, and purchasers who have used
3. P. Townsend’s FERMENTING COMPOUND.
We wish it understood, because It Is the absolute truth,
that 8. P. Townsend's nrtlcle and Old Dr. Jacob Town-
(end’s 8amparllla are heaven-wide apart, and infinitely dis
similar; that they are Unlike In every particular, having
not one single thing in common.
As 8. P. Townsend is no doctor, and nover wa*, Is do
chemist, no pharmnccnllst—knows no more of medicine or
disease than any other common, unscientific, unprofessional
man, what guarantee can Use public have that they are re
ceiving a genuine sclentilic medicine, containing all the
virtues of the articles used in preparing it. and which are in
cn|»able of changes which might render them the AGENT8
of Disease Instead of health.
But what else should be expected from one who knows
nothing comparatively of medicine or disease! It requires
a |teraon of some experience to cook and serve tip even a
common decent meal. How hutch more important Is it that
the persons who manufacture medicine, designed for
WEAK STOMACHS AND ENFEEBLED SYSTEMS,
should know well the medical properties of plants, the
best manner of securing and concentrating their healing
virtues, also an axtenslve knowledge of the various diseases
which affect the human system, and how to adapt remedies
to these diseases!
It is to arrest frauds upon the unfortunate, to pour balm
Into wounded humanity, to kindle hope In the despairing
bosom, to restore health and bloom, and vigor into (be
crushed and broken, and to banish Infirmity that OLD DR.
JACOB TOWNSEND has BOUGHT aud FOUND tho op
portunity and means to bring his

Remedy
within the reach, and to the knowledge of a\l who need It,
that they may lenrn and know, by Joyful experience, lu »
