To the Public.
TRUE undersigned have procured the
4i building recently, occupied as a Poor
House and Hospital, and will open it on
the first o May next, for the reception of
aiek seamen and negroes. Seamen will
find it an excellent retreat where they will
huve medical advice, good nursing, and all
the comforts thattheirhealth may require.
Planters and others owning slaves will act
humanely, and. will at the same time econo
mize by sending them when sick to this
institution. Few plantations are without
examples of negroes who are not only use
less but expensive, in consequence uf their
laboring under chronic diseases, which
might be rmred nv relieved bv the doily
medical advice and good nursing afiorded
by a hospital. Those affected with acu*e
diseases are also fit subjects for such an in
stitution; they will be better treated there
tbun they can possibly be in the country,
and will suffer less by moving, than by the
long interval which usually elapses between
the visits of the physician. The patients
will be kept in strict discipline and will be
prevented from visiting the city. The un
dersigned hope to receive the liberal en
couragement of the Planters. Without it
they cannot conduct so expensive au insti
tution.
One wing of the Hospital will be appro-
E Hated to white patients, the other to
lacks, and the sexes will be lodged in dis
tinct wards. Private apartments and spe
cial attendance may be had by those who
desire them.
- The undersigned will visit the Hospital
twice a day and ottener when necessary.
They will engage an apothecary to reside
in the hospital and will employ good nur-
a.
Patients will be received on the follow
ing terms: White will pay £1 SO per diem
for the first fortnight, and ft 1 for every day
ttiat they remain after the expiration ot
lliat termt private apartments and special
attendance may be had at 83 per diem.
People of color will be received on the
same terms as whites, but subject to some
reduction in cases of long continuance.—
Extra charges will be made for wine, bran
dy and porter, where the situation ofthe
patient requires them. Something extra
will alio be expected for operations. .In
all cases deceased patients will be buried
at the expense of those who introduce them.
Inasmuch as the expense of the institu
tion will be considerable, town guarantees
for the pay ment, of the hospital fees will
be expected with the patient.
Admission into the Hospital will be pro
cured by applying to the undersigned at
their respective residences in Broughton-
street.
