alone tu render our publication worthy of its patrons by
neatness in its typographical eiiibulfi*linioitl» ; but by
tho exercise of ail industry which has never tired, to
;< render it tho medium of tho earliest and most correct in
telligence, to tho commercial community, tuid by thu
support of what wo beliovo to bo correct political doc

The advertising pntronnpo of a newspnper is that
upon which it is principally dependent for support, and
which of course, wo are most anxious to secure. Tim
Georgian hus for many years received a lurgo proportion

of every individual when paying Ibr tho insertion
of his advertisement to secure the most extensive cur

THE PLEIADES,
A Weekly Literary Gazette, to be published,
in Charleston, *S\ C.
W E have long thought that o. weekly pub
lication, entirely devoted to light and
miscellaneous literature, would inert with a
ready and liberal patronage in this commu
nity. We now make the experiment.—
Our editors have hitherto confined their; at
tention very selfishly to the wants and re
quirements of thoir own sex, leaving unnoti
ced that finer portion rf creation to tho n-
inuseincnt and instruction of which, as well
as that of our own order, our labors shall iu
future be equally directed. To them, there
fore, we look for patronage and encourage
ment.
Wo propose “ TIIF, PLEIADES” as n
receptacle for that light and graceful litera
ture, original and selected, which is calcula
ted fur the occasional amusement und gratifi
cation of the public. Ana weekly melange,
in which the gentleman and tho lady—the old
arid tho young—intelligent und uninformed,
will equally find something to relievo tho
