TIIE PLEIADES,
A Weekly Literary Gazette, to be publishll
in Charleston, 8. C.
W E have long thought that a weekly pub
lication, entirely devoted to light and
miscellaneous literature, would meet with a
ready and liberal patronage in this commu
nity. We now nmko the experiment.—
Our editors have hitherto confined their at
tention very selfishly to the wants and re-
quimnents of their own sex, leaving unnoti
ced that finer portion of creation to tho n-
musemont and instruction of which, as well
ns that of our own order, our labors shall in
future be equally directed. To them, there
fore, wo look for patronage and encourage
ment.
We propose “ TIIE PLEIADES” us n
receptacle for that light and graceful litera
ture^ original and Elected, which is calcula
ted for the occasional amusement and gratifi
cation oftlio public. As a weekly melange,
in which the gentleman tuid tho lady—the old
anil tho yourijT—intelligent and uninformed,
will equally find something to relieve the
weighty or graver employment, and to dissi
pate the burden of troublesome and unpleas-
ant hours. Original nnd selected tales—Mo
ral Essay.v-Poetry and Miscellaneous, Ori-
gimil and Selected Literature, pruned and
gathered into shape, will form its principal
contents—over tlm morals of whicn a scru
pulous and discriminating caution will be
curoftilly exercised nnd maintained.
