To Mr. M. UmuNsoN.
The above testimonial, from a gentleman
who has already rendered the public much ser
vice by exposing various deleterious mixtures
and adulterations in articles of general con
sumption, added to tiie recommendation of
the medical profession, make it unnecessary
for the proprietors to do more than state, that
none are Genuine which do not bear the words

The subscribers having been appointed fl

introducing them in this city for medicinal and
other purposes, have just received a small
quantity, neatly put up in half pound packa
ges, with directions for use. They feel as
sured from the great demand forthem in New

In all cases of coughs, colds, asthmas, and

De La Montorat’s Columbian Vegetable

Baltimore. County, Felt. 14th 1829.
(tenthnu n—I loci it my duty to acknowl
edge the gro.il benefit I have derived from the
use of De La Montemt’s Columbian Vegeta
ble Specific. 1 do not like to speak of the
Medicine in the exalted terms in which 1 esti
mate it, I will, therefore, as briefly as possible,
give a history of my own situation, with the
elfects produced by this valuable medicine.—
1 have ho< n, fort Iso last five or six years, la
boring under a pulmonary Consumption, pro
nounced to be such by tho attending physi
cian, during which time I have consulted
many physicians, taken much medicine, hut
all to hut little purpose. Tho 12th of March,
' 1828,1 puked blood for tlie first lime, and con
tinued so to do for several days in succession,
and on the 14th oflhe same month was con
fined to my bed, where I lay for two months
until! was reduced to sueh a state of debility,
that my friends began to dospairof my recove
ry. J had made use also of all the popular
remedies without_ benefit, and having acciden
tally heard of this Specific, I determined to
give it a trial, anticipating from the use of it,
no bolter result thun bad attended tho tiso of
all the remedies 1 had taken; but in this 1 was
luippily disappointed. At my very lowest
state I commenced tho ase oftliis Specific.—
1 took the first dose at nigh tin n little herb tea,
sweetened, which threw ino in a gentle per
spiration amiI procured for ine a good night’s
rest. 1 continued to take the medicine os di
rected, and m about five days my cough was
completely stopped and have not had any re
turn since. I am now perfectly satisfied of
the superior quality oftliis Specific over every
other medicine offered for the cure of the
above disease. You are at liberty to use Ibis
letter in any way you may think proper.—
Yours respectfully,

THE PLEIADES,

in Charleston, S. C.
■flTE have long thought that a weekly pub-
VT lication, entirely devoted to light and
miscellaneous literature, would meet with a
ready and liberal patronugc in this commu
nity. We now mako the experiment.—
Our editors have hitherto confined their-at
tention very selfishly to tho wants and re
quirements of their own sex, leaving unnoti
ced that finer portion of creation to the u-
uiuscment and instruction of which, as well
us thut of our own order, our luhors shall in
future he equally directed. To them, there
fore, wc look for patronage and encourage
ment.
We propose “ THE PLEIADES” as a
receptacle for that light and graceful litera
ture, original and selected, which is calcida-
ted for the occasional uinuscinent and gratifi
cation ofthe public. As a weekly melange,
in which the gentleman and the louy—tho old
and the young—intelligent and uninfonned,
will cquully find something to relievo the
weighty or gruver employment, and to dissi
pate tho burden of troubfesonie and tmplons-
