Inman Affair*.—The last Cherokee I’hanix con
tains a long message from John Ross, the Principal
Chief, to tho general Council. Afu r making the ri
diculous assertion, that the Nation had always been al
lowed to manage its own concerns in its own way, the
document proceeds to givoa hi.-tory of the incidents at
tending the mission that was sent to the City of Wash-
ton, a short time since. It is expressed iu these words:
“When on the eve ofleaving Washington, and only
awaiting the derision of Ihu President on Reid's claim tor
ardent spirits, illegally introduced into the Nation, and
confiscated under our laws, the Delegation, very unex
pectedly, received from the Secretary of Wur, tho much
talked of letter oflhe IHth April last. The subject hav
ing been Inid beforu Congress, mid llio sentiments of the
Nation fully expressed, and the opinion of tho Delega
tion not being ill the slightest degreo affi.cted by the ar-
fjmnents advanced by the Jlon. Secretary iu favor of
Georgia’s extending her sovereign jurisdiction over a
portion or our territory, and withal, being iri readiness
todepart, and anxious to return home, they did not deem
it necessary to make any reply. The extraordinary lati
tude ofconstruction given by iho Secretary, on the so
vereignty of Georgia, exhibits a glaring attempt ot inno
vation in our political rights, and is calculated to oiled
acriousty our relationship w ith (ho Genetai Govern-
IIIUll.”
The Message next alludes to the claim set tip by this
State, tothn land embraced within the new line, which
leads from Suwanna Old Town on tho Chnttalioclio
River to sonic point on Ihc Creek Putin This circum-
btancu appears to h^vo excited tho ire of the Indian
Chief to u great degree ; and it bus occasioned him lo
make a mi»;;i. attack upon tin; Secretary of War. Not
only so, but in pouring out the viul of his wrath, he hm,
likewise spilled some upon the people of Geo* gin, re
commends the most vigoroas measures lo bo taken in
rululioii to them, and concludes by gravely iniorming his
Kenate, that “by the 6th article of the treaty ofilolstoti,
1791, it U stipulated, “Ifany citir.cn ofthc United Staley
or other person, not being an Indian, hlmll settle on uny
ofthc Cherokee Lund, such person shall (brieit the pro.
lection of the United Slides and the Cherokee.! may
punish him or not, as they please."

tion wna adopted, suspending llm law pasted Nov. Hilt
1829, authorising the Treasurer lo issue permits fur the
introduction of whitu men into the nation.
The Clerk of tho Council Alexander M'C»y, was

a body to the Senate House, and tltmund to be heard!"
And why not, aye, and have tho last word too 7—Hear

your unnatural usurpation!
You are horn stronger than we arc : and that is the
only advantage you have over us. Nature has endow
