Sir—I havo analyzed your Giunts and Bar
ley Powder, which you, having His Majesty’s
Letters Patent lor the sole manufacturing of
the same, properly denominate “Patent Bah*
LpY and Patent Groats.” I have no hesi
tation in declaring them to be genuine pow
ders of the finest Burley and Oats I ever saw.
I consider it u public advantage, and of great
importance in the medical world, that by your
inode of prepuratiqn, a valuable, fine, mucilu-
ginous beverage and feed may be obtained iu
ii few minutes.
I huvo also analyzed some samples,—imita
tions of your articles,—which are “warrant
ed free from adulteration, “these I pronounce
to be composition of different meals, conse
quently, neither pure Barley-water nor Oat-
g ruet can be made from them.
I am, Sir, vour obedient servant,
* RICHARD CLARKE,
To Mr. M. Rodjnson.
Tho above testimonial, from a gentleman
who has already rendered the public much ser
vice by exposing various deleterious mixtures
and adulterations in articles of general con
sumption, added to tho recommendation of
the medical profession, make it Unnecessary
for the proprietors to do more than state, that
none are Genuine which do not bear the words
“Robinson's Patent" the Royal Arms, and
the Signature of Matts. Robinson.
Warranted to keep in any climate.
The subscribers haying been appointed a-
gcntB for the above articles and with a view of
introducing them in this city for medicinal and
other purposes, have just received a small
quantity, neatly put up m half pound packa
ges, with directions for use. They feel as
sured from the grout demand for them in New
York, Philadelphia and Charleston, that a sin
gle trial will decidedly prove their superiority
to Arrow Root, common Bnrley, &c. as a nu
tritious food for children and invalids.

ready and liberal patronage in this commu
nity. We now mako tho experiment.-
Our editors havo hitherto confined their tt.
tention very selfishly to tho wants ami" re.
quirements of their own sox, leaving unnoti
ced that finer portion of creation to the a.
musonicnt nnd instruction of which, os well
tiH that of our own order, our labors shall in
future be equally directed. To them, there-
fore, wo look fur patronage and cucourfl-m-
ment.
Wo propose “ THE PLEIADES” as a
roccptaclo for tlint light nnd graceful litem-
tore, original and selected, which is calcula
ted fur tlio occasional amusement and gratifi-
cntioii oftho public. As a weekly melange,
in which the gentleman and the lady—the eld
and the young—intelligent and uninformed,
will equally uud something to relieve the
weighty or graver employment, and to dissi
pate the burden of troublesome and unpleas
ant hours. Original and selected tales—Ma -
rnl Essays,—Poetry nud Miscellaneous, Ori.
ginal and Selected Literature, pruned and
gathered into shape, will form its principal
contents—over the morals of which a scru
pulous and discriminating caution will be
curcfully exercised and maintained.
“ The Pleiades,” will be published weekly,
commencing on tho first Saturday in Novem
ber next, in a form of eight medium quarto
pages, and will be put to subscribers at $4
per annum, if puiil in advance, or 95 at tho
expiration of eix months. Single numbers

for a less term than one year, when tho vol.
lime will be completed.
