Sir—I have analyzed your Groats and Bar
ley Powder, which you, having His Majesty’s
Letters Patent for the sole manufacturing of
tho same, properly denominate “PatentBar
ley and Patent Groats.” I have no hesi
tation in declaring them to bo genuine pow
ders of the finest Harley and Oats I ever saw
I consider it a public advantage, and of great
importance in the medical world, that by your
mode of preparat ion, a valuable, fine, mucila
ginous beverage and food may bo obtained in
a few minutes.
I have also analyzed some snrnplos,—imita-
lions of your articles,—which ure “warrant
ed free from adulteration, “these I pronounce
to bo composition of different meals t conse
quently, neither pure Barley-water nor Oat-
gruel can be made from them.
I am, Sir, your obedient servant,
RICHARD CLARICE.
To Mr. M. Rorjnson.
Tho abovo testimonial, from a gentleman
who has already rendered the public much ser
vice by exposing various deleterious mixtures
and adulterations iti articles of general con
sumption, udded to tho recommendation of
tho medical profession, make it unnecessary
for the proprietors to do moro than state, that
none are Genuine which do not bear the words

SORE THROAT, ULCERS of every dcs«
cription, however old and inveterate; every
variety of Cutaneous disease, blotches on
the fucc, Pimples and Tetter in particular,
Rheumatism and Gout, White Swellings and
diseases resulting from Mercury, may be
confident of obtaining in all tho above cases,
in which nature hus not altogether yielded to
disease, rndical and permanent cures from
the use of the Catholicon. This is tho first
discovery of a medicine taken iu the stomach
that has had tho long desired effect of curing
the most obstinate und distressing externa
diseases.
The use of nutritious food, and the ordina
ry avocations of business are not interrupted
by the Catholicon ; and its properties having
tlio power of restoring both flesh and hone,
and of ronovuting and invigorating every
pnrtof the system during the process of ex-
tcrminuting*diHCuse, is without a parnllol.
The proprietor begs leave respectfully, to
return thanks to the tnnny who have reposed
confidence in his former statements, relating
to the healing properties of tho Catholicon;
and he would ftirther assure the public, that
he will in no instance forfeit their confidence,
by recommending his medicine ns applicable
to any disense in which it shall not have
proved itself eminently successful.
Tho folllowing certificates will, it is pro

pre-eminent virtues of tho Catholican.

De la Montorat’s Columbian
Vogel able Specific for tho cure of Con
sumptions, Asthma, Pleurisy, spitting of
Blood, and Pulmonary ullbclions of every
kind—the most valuable remedy ever dis
covered for the cure of consumptions und
all diseases of the breust and lungs lcadin,
to consumptions.
T O ALL AFFLICTED with those Iron-
blesomc affections, un immediate use of
this highly celebrated Specific is only neces
sary to convince the most incredulous of its
possessing qualities superior to any other
medical preparation yet discovered. Since
the discovery of this invaluable medicine,
numbers havo experienced its salutary and
happy effects.—Its mild and gentle operations
arc much extolled by those who havo used it.
In all cases of coughs, colds, asthmas, and
other consumptive affections, by tlio use of
this article they have been enabled to defeat
an enemy whose attacks would otherwise
liavo been followed by tlio most alarming con
sequence. This specific lias relieved and
cured the most violent cases in which other
medicines have failed to give any relief. It
operates by gentle expectorations and may
be given to infats und children with the great
est safety.
De La Moiitnrut’s Columbian Vegetable
Specific has stood tho test of experience and
proved itself the most valuable remedy ever
discovered forthe cure of Consumption and
Pulmonary affections of every kind.
Tlio following certificates, just received
front highly respectable gentlemen will show
its value:
Baltimore County, Feb. lAth 1820..
Gentlemen—I feci it nty duty to acknowl
edge tlio groat benefit I have derived fromtiie
uso ofDo La Montorat’s Columbian Vegeta
ble Specific. I do not like to speak of tho
Medicine in tho exalted terms in which I esti
mate it, I will, therefore, as briefly as possible,
give a history of tny own situation, with the
effects produced by this valuable medicine.—
I havo been, for tho last five or six years, la
boring under a pulmonary Consumption, pro
nounced to bo such by the attending physi-
cinn, during which time I have consulted
many physicians, taken much medicine, but
nil to but little purpose. The 12th of March,
1828,1 puked blood forthe first time, and con
tinued so to do for several days in succession,
and on the 14th of the same month wits con
fined to my bed, where I lay for two months
until I was reduced to such a state of debility,
that, my friends began to despnirof my recove
ry. I had made uso also of all the popular
remedies without benefit, and having acciden
tally henrd of this Specific, I determined to
give it a trial, anticipating from the use of it,
no bGtter result than had attended the uso of
all the remedies I hud taken; but in this I was
happily disappointed. At my very lowest
state I commenced tho uso of this Specific.—
I took tho first dose at night in a littlo herb tea,
sweetened, which threw mo in a gentle per
spiration and procured for inn a good night’s
rest. I continued to tako tho medicine os di-
rcctod, and in ubout live days my cough was
completely stopped and havo not had any re
turn since. lain now perfectly satisfied of
the superior quality of this Specific over every
other modicino offered for the cure of tho
above disease. You nro at liberty to uso this
