The Grand Jurors of Richmond county follow in the wake of that of Hancock, in presenting the conduct of printers in employing negroes in newspaper establish- merits, as an evil. Some of the blunders w hich occur nt tho press, to which their operations are limited, are a .Vtisfuctory proof of their utter guiltlessness of any knowledge of letters. It is dated the 30th of (Jetober, und goes on to say:— “ The miseries and sufferings, nnd all the appalling horrors attendant on Pestilence and death, have perhaps' never been equalled— certainly never surpassed by those which ha ve visited this ill fated—devoted place, du ring the past season—ol'between 150 and 100 inhabitants who remained to spend, the Hum mer months on tho Island, upwards of 70 havo fallen victims to the dreadful malady—But one solitary individual in the place*(F. A. Brown, Esq.) has entirely escaped. The circumstances attending a great proportion of tho cases, have been such ns to excite a moro than ordinary degree of sympathy for the suf ferers. Many died moro from exhaustion, than from disease. At somo periods tho dis ease wus so universal, that many who might with proper attendance and mcdicul aid have recovered, sunk away for want of a friendly hand to administer to their helplessness & ne cessities. Tho scone of wretchedness und wo, which every where prevailed, no language has power to describe—nor can imagination conceive its horrors, without having partici pated in its dreadful realities. Isolated ns is the place from any cultivated portion of country, with no resources within itself for support, at the season of the year when few or no vessolspass, n general scarcity prevail ed, not only of fresh provisions but of almost every comfort nnd convenience, which tho feeble and exhausted system requires, to nour ish and sustain its sinking franio. The small supply of poultry, which tho Island nftbrdod commanded prices beyond tho moans of tho poorer classes to procure. Ilalfgrown ehiek- ons sold from $1 50 to $2 00 each. The poor and needy sufferer* consequently had notFiing to nourish and rcstoro his cmuciutcd frame, but broad and salted beef, and even theso wore often debarred him for tho want of somo friendly hand to administer them. ” Considerable sickness still prevails though but fbw now cases occur; and the diameter of tho disease is much milder than hereto- loro.” have arrived, but are not yet luntled. . 50 bxs. brown Trinidad Cuba were sold at 9 cents, •1 mas., and some good New OrJeuns at 7jj a 7,\ cents. .
