this highly celebrated Specific is only neces
sary to convince the most incredulous of its
possessing qualities superior to any other
medical preparation yet discovered. Since
the discovery of this invaluable medicine,
numbers have experienced its salutary and
happy effects.—Its mild and gentle operations
are much extolled by those who have used it.
In all cases of coughs, colds, asthmas, and
other consumpt’ve affections, by the use ot*
this article they have been enabled to defeat
an enemy whose attacks would otherwise
have been followed by the most alarming con-
seque 'This specific has relieved and
cured t.v most violent cases in which other
medicines have failed to give any relief. It
operates by gentle expectorations and may
be given to infills ami children with the great
est safety.
Do La Monterat's Columbian Vegetable
Specific has stood the test of experience and
proved itself the most valuable remedy ever
discovered for the cure, of Consumption and
Pulmonary affections of every kind.
The following certificates, just received
from highly respectable gentlemen will show
its value:
Baltimore County, Tib. 14/A 1820.
Gentlemen—I feel it. my duty *o acknowl
edge the great benefit I have derived from the
use of Do La Monterat’s Columbian Vegeta
ble Specific. I do not like to speak of the
Medicine in the exalted terms in which I esti
mate it, I will, therefore,as briefly as possible,
give a history of my own situation, with the
effects produced by this valuable medicine.—
I hove been, for the last five or six years, la
boring under u pulmonary Consumption, pro-
nounced to be such by the attending physi
cian, during which time l have consulted
many physicians, taken much medicine, but
all to but little purpose. The 12th of March,
1828,1 puked blood for the first time, and con
tinued so to do for several days in succession,
and on the 14th ofthe same month was con-
lined to tny bed, where I lay for two months
until I was reduced to such a state of debility,
that my friends began to despair of my recove
ry. I had made use also of all the popular
remedies without benefit, and having acciden
tally heard of this Specific, 1 determined to
. , , n . v. .. i,. give it a trial, anticipating from the use of it,

In order to make fully known in what esti
mation Swaim’s Panacea is held by the medi
cal profession, the proprietor subjoins certifi
cates from gentlemen who in their private as
well as public characters, are deservedly
ranked among the most scientific ofthe pro
fession. The public, as well aa the proprietor
ofthe Panacea, owe much gratitude to the
gentlemen who have thus testified in its fa
vor—their recommendations have occasioned
its use in various cases of inveterate corrup
tion of the blood, descending to the. second
generation, which otherwise would have uc-
stroyed valuable lives. Their humanity and
disinterestedness in promoting the currency
of a medicine found to be of such great bene
fit to the human race, without regard to its
original ownership, claims the grateful admi
ration of a beneficent public.
This medicine has the singular fortune, a
just tribute to its great merit, of being recom
mended by the most celebrated practitioners
of medicine in the United States and else
where ; whereas not one ofthe spurious mix
tures made in imitation of it, has the least
support from the medical faculty. This fact
offers an argument eo plain and conclusive,
that it needs only to be mentioned to enforce
conviction.
The false reports concerning this valuable
medicine, which have been so diligently circu
lated by certain physicians, must have their
origin either in envy or in the mischievous
effects of spurious imitations.—I leave the
public to judge l«r themselves.
I pledge myself to the public, and give
them the mast solemn assurances, that this
medicine does not contain mercury in any
form whatever.
